I also think it has something to do with the fact that new yorkers usually work pretty late (at least everyone I know does!) So when I walk in from work at 8:30 I don't really want to turn on the stove. I've learned to cook huge meals on Sunday afternoon to last almost all through the week. I just finished making these and it ended up taking a bit longer for the caramel to get dark - almost 20 minutes. We just got a new slipcover from Bemz and it's great. We got a bunch of fabric samples from then and went with a nice dark grey color - it looks amazing. The couch is close to 10 years old and I don't remember which style it is but it looks like new now and is still incredibly comfortable. I live in a huge (1500 sq ft?) 3 bedroom in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, and pay $2300 a month. It's a doorman/elevator building in a great, safe neighborhood.
