Oh! The house I grew up in had one of these -- even though we had windows on either side of the door! -- and I couldn't get enough of it. I don't know, I'm agreeing with kimg924... what makes Spade's books unique? I've poked through them, and I liked the illustrations, but what does the meat say -- especially since you now own them! Personally, I've got a '28 copy of Emily Post and "Things You Need to be Told," which are both fabulous & snarky. Some things never change! Let's just say Post's chapter called "Dinner Parties: Not For the Novice to Attempt" made my year. Having just gotten back from Moab (hiking trip through Utah), I can highly recommend Arches as well as the Sorrel River Ranch in the article. Yes, they're deck chairs, but on a bit of a side note --forgive the historian in me!-- the actual deck chairs on the Titanic's were full reclining chairs, made of teak & rattan. I've got a 4x4 (love, love love!) and as for the "unpleasant" side of books... the shelves are wide enough, at least for most of my books, to store two sets. One row of books faces out one side (non-fiction, if you must know) and the other (fiction!) faces the other. Very helpful, as it means it's lovely room divider from both sides...and I can store all my books. ...and tchotchkes...we mustn't forget how well it stores those! I was wandering / admiring those old victorians in haight-ashbury (fulton / stanyon technically) and got invited inside by someone renovating -- it looks almost exactly like this (same moulding, built-ins) -- and I fell in love! There's one in my parents' house -- weirded us all out at first, but now we've gotten used to it. Of course, it's more sleek, and automatically flushes (which surprises you when you happen to walk too close!) shrug Not bad.
