I used to buy myself 3 thick books and read them over the Christmas/New Year period when I was on my own. It was a real treat - like a return to childhoodv (when I would read constantly).

I've done 2 Lord of the Rings extended version trilogy marathons, in a single day each time. And survived!

I like watching chunks of series at one sitting, not necessarily a whole series in one go. Around 4 eps at a time is satisfying as it allows you get back into the world of the show and make some progress with the story without getting burnt out on trying to watch it all.

Studio flat in Helsinki, 28.5 square metres (yes, at that size the .5 was very important!) for €450 including water and district heating. I moved in there in January 2002 and left in May 2007 - and the rent never went up.

It was tiny (in one furniture configuration the foot of my bed was under the dining table) but lovely (high ceilings, wooden floors), and was very well placed for public transport - buses, trams and metro all within a few minutes of my front door.

It looks like cross stitch - you could probably search for kits online!

I agree with the comments about rubber mulch - that sounds horrible, and surely it wouldn't encourage any wildlife that wanted to use the garden!

Have always wanted a herringbone path... Perhaps quartering a herb garden. Now I just need to move somewhere with a yard!

Gorgeous room, but is it necessary to be so restricted in mentality as regards colour and gender?

I dunno, this just seems annoying and unnecessary. Seriously? You're already sweeping the stuff onto that shelf - why not just allocate it where it should go yourself (recycling, compost, bin)?

I had these for the first time last year in South Africa. They're sublime! Amazing how something so simple can be so incredibly intense. Mmm.

Only thing I like about this place are the parquet floors - and not for any design reasons, but simply cos it reminds me of the house I grew up in.

I think the only ones that work are sheer, or of the panel variety - a "nominal" curtain/separator. Can't stand the look of drapes in a small space.

When I lived in a teeny tiny flat in Helsinki I had no counter space, so I stored my toaster in a top cupboard and had it on the table when in use.

Friends of mine have it on their windowsill!

I've always liked the idea of these - never managed to make one properly though. You can buy them readymade in litre cartons here in Finland - yummy berry ones.

UHT products taste weird. I'd much rather go for fresh, normally pasteurised dairy.

I have yellow Teema plates, and I love them. They look farmhouse-y to me, and food looks good on them. As a rule I don't like white crockery, although cream is ok.

I do keep a few small jars to use for homemade jam and chutney, but I don't have space to store lots of empty glass jars while waiting for the next round of jam-making. I recycle the rest.
