Are the sweetened coconut flakes added for both flavor AND texture? If mostly for flavor, could this be tweaked by using virgin coconut oil instead?

This sounds good flavor-wise, but I hate the texture of dried coconut, so I thought I'd ask.

We keep pizza dough in our freezer all the time and thaw it out as needed on nights that we plan to make pizza for dinner. The procedures shown from America's Test Kitchen seem to be encouraging laziness.

Sure it'd be quicker to pull an already assembled homemade pizza from the freezer and simply pop it into the oven, but does the diminished quality & flavor make the small amount of time gained a good thing?

Thawing dough and making the pizza doesn't take that much longer as long as you plan ahead.

Frozen pizzas are evil for multiple reasons and this method only cuts the not-homemade evil from the list.

I make my spaetzle with a food with using the plate with the largest holes. In the past I had used a flexible plastic cutting board that I had drilled 1/4" holes into. I like the food mill much better.

Seeing the spaetzle makers in the kitchen store gave me the idea to use the food mill as the operations are almost identical.

Any way you make it though, spaetzle is awesome! Just last week we made schnitzel and spaetzle for dinner. Happy tummies all around. Ahhhhhhhhh.

After cooking, I thought the sauce was still a bit thin, sooooo.... I took the shank pieces out of the slow cooker and cleaned them up.

I added the liquid and veggies (removing the rosemary stem and bay leaf) to a 10" skillet and whizzed it with my immersion blender. I simmered it a bit to reduce and then added the meat back it. I served this with some fresh rolls.

Then, it was awesome. Thanks for the great start. =D

After 3.5 hours, my crock pot on low is simmering at 208*. A low oven (250 or less) would probably accomplish similar temps with a dutch oven.

I bought some HUGE, meaty beef shanks on my way home from work tonight and will be starting them up using this recipe tomorrow morning.
