If you have a Mac, Apple has a nifty little widget called "Unit Converter" you can download. It gives you conversions for weight, volume, length, temperature, currency and many units. I've lived in this country for 30 years and still have problems with inches and centimeters, and Fahrenheit and Celsius.

I don't care if a garlic press or other tools are cool or uncool. Who decides that anyway? Some TV celebrities who think they are better than the rest of us? Everybody is entitled to do and use what they want, regardless of what is popular right now.

I love Earl Grey tea and definitely have to try this out. But yes, where will I get bergamot at this time of the year (or any time) in Chicago?

Thanks for this! I will try it, celery has become so ridiculously expensive here, that this would be the way to go. I wonder what else I could grow on my window sill.

I guess that's why it's impossible to get a properly cooked soft boiled egg in a restaurant - because none of them use a timer. Touching, tasting or smelling doesn't quite work with those... I don't own a timer but check clock occasionally. Especially when baking. Do everything else on the list though.

If you clean the stove top daily right after cooking when it's still warm it takes only a minute, without any elbow grease. At the same time wipe the front and you're done. Works with gas and electric stoves, I've had both. With the gas stove I vacuum the burner box every few days and wipe it out.

I have done this with an absolutely disgusting stove that had probably never been cleaned. After a few days it looked like new. It's the best tip I've ever gotten from the internet!

It's a lovely kitchen and so cozy. The last time I "renovated" my rental kitchen, that consists of one half wall of my living room, was six years ago, I think it's time again to change it. Let's see what extremely budget-friendly ideas I'll get. Thanks for the inspiration.

Thank you, Ro.BsAs! That's what I usually use but I was wondering if the sprouts would taste similar as the ones in the recipe. Not that I would notice because I haven't tried the recipe and won't, not with fish sauce, that is.

Sorry, I hadn't read all the comments. Dulcibella had already said how it's done much more easily.

I just use baking soda. Add water to the pot/pan, add a good amount of baking soda and bring to a boil and let simmer for a while. Be careful, it easily boils over and you'll have a big mess on your hands. Let cool until you can stick your hands in it without burning yourself and scrub with the hard part of a sponge. You won't need to scrub much. It's less work than the instructions above. Unless the food is seriously burnt, it comes right off during the simmering part.

I love Brussel sprouts in any form, as long as they are not made with fish sauce. Any substitute?

I made this one for lunch with some alterations. I used fresh potatoes and alternately layered them with the pepper/onion mix. I also added less eggs which I had mixed with some sour cream as I can't have milk. The cheese I put on top. It was absolutely delicious!
Thanks for this great recipe!
