I agree KTC.

I was downton on 9/11 and when we had to run for it, I grabbed my purse and made sure my friend was right with me.

Granted being prepared is a great luxury -- but I think all this preparedness is propoganda promoting fear.

The fact is Mother Nature is fierce and when it comes down to documents or your life -- you will chose your life.

Not unless you are totally crazy.

I agree that one should be prepared ... but a suitcase by your door at all times?

A life lived in fear is a life half lived.

I'd grab my husband, cats, passport and purse.

Done.

Everything that is necessary can be replaced and everything that is a luxury or momento is worth losing for your life.

Healthy food, dark chocolate, our cats, digital cable. We keep it simple -- but those things give us a lot of joy.

We also took some of our wedding money and bought a leather couch from Room & Board. I have asthma -- so it was a long time coming. It was the most we've spent on ourselves and the last expensive thing we'll spend on ourselves.

Now we're saving up for a home and kids.

I am super allergic to cats and dogs -- but still have them in my life. For as much as I'm allergic -- I love them infinitely more.

If your fiance is up for it, allergy shots have worked wonders for me. It is time consuming (the process takes about three years) but it works. I didn't realize I could live a day without sneezing.

It could also be costly -- even with insurance, because of the co-pay.

But worth it, worth it, worth it!

I would love to buy from the local farmers market -- but when they charge soooo much for their produce, I can't rationalize it.

I am an avid recycler, I write my senators and representative about environmental legislation -- I know how important it is to support local food producers.

But when I've spent 30 dollars and walk away with only four heirloom tomatoes and three zucchini's? I've never felt such buyers remorse over making gazpacho.

It makes no sense to me that higher education is as expensive as it is. If we, as a nation, were more educated our country would benefit overall -- and that would translate to improvements worldwide. Why doesn't our government support higher education for all?

I would support higher taxes for government provided health care and higher education.

But one thing that younger generations just don't get is SAVING!!!!!

I'm in theatre. I'm in the lowest tax bracket -- but I save and invest. I may not be a rich, old man -- but I will play the rich, old man's game.

See how the rich get richer and copy -- even if it's only $50 a month -- it adds up.

(hopefully.)

Just because something is used doesn't mean it's a "hack" job. The guy said he got it from a friend.

I don't know, Kyle. Keep doing research. I doubt a "hack" job would weigh so much. You might have a proze on your hands.

Set -- I respect your point of view.

I know that the world is not all roses. I have had plenty of violence, and tragedy in my own life -- I just happen to think this is apartment isn't as "bad" as you do.

Let's agree to disagree.

Thanks.

Hey Set -- calm down. Being an actress and former dancer myself, I know that artists don't have a lot of money and you spend most of your artistic energy on the stage and in the studio -- not on your home.

That being said, I think this place is vibrant and beautiful -- especially on artists salaries (or I should say incomes). It is tasteful and clean -- what more could you need when you have such fulfilling lives outside of the home.

I'm not saying that these people should buy ... but if you have been researching long and hard, have a great credit history and self-discipline with your finances -- this can be a great time to buy. Of course, you would need to be content with the space for five years, plus ... but why would you want to invest in a place you only had luke warm feelings for.

The fact remains that if you take the time to educate yourself -- you can take advantage of certain situations, ie. this oncoming recession.

I think you did the right thing. But I have to flip the coin here ...

I worked for a great company, that shall not be named, designing closets. Sometimes customers would definitely take advantage of the workers -- yelling at them if they had to wait in line, if we were out of a product, etc. You name it and we would be verbally (and in a rare case) physically abused by customers.

Yes, you deserve good customer service -- but please don't take out your aggressions on the workers. We are, for the most part, struggling to get our real careers moving, or maybe this is the extra job we've taken on just to make ends meet.

Remember -- the person across from you who can't perform the merchandise miracle is NOT the person who got you pregnant and then dumped you, nor is it your condescending boss, or your over-bearing sister-in-law, we're just trying to do our job.

Love and light, kids.
