I think it is important to keep in mind that any need for childproofing is temporary. If you want to, you will eventually get your living room back. If you think you need a gate, I'd go for ugly over DIY, and get rid of it as soon as possible. Babyproofing a Wood Stove Good Questions |

Our one MacLaren stroller is on the second kid. I ran over it with the car once while it was folded up, so one wheel is a bit wobbly, but just fine. I do have a few carriers though... Let's Talk Strollers |

We have the Svan chair - modern without looking like it is from outer space like some of these. And, it converts from high chair to booster. Modern High ChairsRound Up | Apartment Therapy Ohdeedoh |

We also have a drop side crib and like it fine. However, it would be easy enough to get some bolts to make it fixed. If you're somewhat handy, this could be an option. Source for Non-Drop Side Jenny Lind-Style Crib Good Questions | Apartment Therapy Ohdeedoh |

I have found that it's not so much getting the baby out from the bottom setting as it is putting the baby in. If you have a baby who you can put down in the crib awake and they just go to sleep, then you are way ahead of me. To put the baby in while sleeping or almost asleep when they are on the bottom setting is very difficult. We don't drop the rail every time, but we do fairly often. We have an Eames rocker that I love in the nursery, but with two kids, I only used it for nursing a few times. It got more use when they were a little older, for bedtime stories. I agree with the others, you'll likely want to be in the living room a lot of the time for nursing. Apartment Therapy Ohdeedoh | Two Rockers in the Nursery? Good Questions |

I was at a shower once where there was a game to see who could come up with the most names using the letters from a phrase which included their names. (Not sure if that makes sense.) But, it was actually fun, involved names but no hurt feelings. Apartment Therapy ohdeedoh | Shower Idea: Help with Baby Names? |

Almost $300 for a bunch of R2D2-looking plastic? The Svan and Stokke are much better looking and have lots of seating options. And I'm not sure why a high chair needs to recline. Apartment Therapy ohdeedoh | Tatamia High Chair by Peg Perego |

We used Toy Poodle in orange, blue, purple, and cream. They have held up pretty well (3 1/2 years). I would probably not do cream again, since it is harder to keep clean. We have also used the navy in our living room, which gets more use. Overall, we have been happy with them - they are plenty soft for playing on the floor. I was recently at Ikea, eating lunch with my 3-year old. I went to get her a straw for her drink, and found they had been phased out for environmental reasons. That seemed pretty silly to me. Apartment Therapy Boston | Survey: Does Eco Guilt Stop You From Shopping at Ikea? |

We skipped the exersaucer (too big and bulky!) and got a doorway jumper thing. Probably not as versatile, but our daughter loved it. Apartment Therapy ohdeedoh | Open Thread 58 |

We got a hand-me-down Baby Bjorn bouncy seat. It is a very simple design with an optional toy bar with wooden bears. No vibrating, no music, and it folds up pretty flat. Apartment Therapy ohdeedoh | Open Thread 53 |

We also live in a 1920's house, which has one bathroom that was poorly remodeled (with a shower) before we moved in. We used the kitchen sink for bathing for as long as we could, then switched to a plastic tub in the shower. Ikea makes one that is pretty big and works fine for toddlers. Our daugther is almost 3.
