kmk355 - Lights Up! by Meridian has several sconce options with shades if that's what you're looking for. You can get a look at some of the options at sites like DesignPublic. My husband and I saved our money and bought a small sconce (http://www.designpublic.com/shop/lights-up/5286) and two Oscar boudoir lamps over a period of a few months. They're a little pricy but totally worth it. Cheer Up Your Home: 20 Happy Modern Lights for All Budgets |

Cailo, you're not the only one to feel uncomfortable with the whole idea. We got married a year after college but had been living together, had everything we need (cheap, but serviceable), and our friends were as poor as we were. So we said 'no gifts' on the invitations and announcements. The older family members who wanted to give us gifts did so, and gave us useful things. Honestly, though, the idea that people who've been on their own for a while asking for things they could buy themselves really, really irks me! It just feels so self-centered. I can't believe no one from Austin has chimed in. I've been gone ten years and I still miss CENTRAL MARKET. Owned by HEB, schooled by Whole Foods and Fiesta, Central Market is a crown jewel in the food paradise that is Austin. You can't buy most household products there, but there is a cheese cave in the south store, imports, and hard to find items in every department. Produce area looks like a green market. You can't even see the cash registers from the entrance - it's all about the experience, which changed the way I think about shopping (which is what they were after, I know). So much about it that I cannot describe. Live music in the cafe (which is so good it counts as a restaurant). I miss being able to get herbs/spices/legumes/grains in bulk - it started at the old Whole Foods on Lamar in Austin and Central Market has it, too. I could go on, but I'd just get more pissed that I'm not there anymore! The Best and Worst Supermarkets Consumer Reports |

It might not look southwest, but it certainly looks colonial. Spanish can look quite similar to Italian. Design Inspiration: Southwest |

I believe that learning to "see" when something needs cleaning is like learning to throw. Men 'throwing like girls' is a common phenomenon in other countries, and I've seen shocked U.S. men when they witness it. Likewise with cooking. Why if there are so many male chefs out there so many regular guys can't boil water?! Socially constructed is what I call it. Men can see dirt. No one's asked them to before, and they don't care because someone else has always taken care of it. I think of men like that as stunted beings, actually. My term for them is dinosaurs. Not to get all art historical on you, but there are better examples, esp from the Baroque period in Europe. For me, a Gesamtkunstwerk has to span different media, and has to incorporate the viewer into the experience, esp a multisensorial one. How about Bernini's Cornaro Chapel with the Ecstasy of St. Teresa, where the viewer is drawn into a fictive space where Teresa is constantly in the process of having her vision, and constantly being viewed by members of the Cornaro family in the illustionistic reliefs along the sides of the chapel? Or Alexander Calder and Carlos Raul Villanueva's collaboration at the Ciudad Universidad de Caracas in the Aula Magna, where Calder's Acoustic Clouds serve as acoustic panels and at the same time energize the space?
