Is it easy to clean? Will it look ok when it's covered in pet hair? Will it look awful or well-loved when it is inevitably scratched / spilled on by an animal, husband, guest or myself?

Most of our first furniture purchases were really impractical for the way we live (we hadn't lived together before then so we didn't know that at the time). Our recent purchases have been fantastic additions.

I have free rein for the most part, but no major decision is made without my husband's input. For our new place, I selected the general paint colors; he was doubtful so I showed him pictures of rooms with similar color schemes and he was sold. We grabbed a bunch of paint chips and he picked what ended up being the final colors. It's a work in progress, but that's how it works for most things -- I have an idea, get him on board, and then we make choices together.

We are about to move into a loft with an open floor plan. We don't allow our cats in our bedroom and need a wall -- we're cutting corners and putting
this up for a few years until we are ready to loft it up and build a real wall with a door there.

I'm not big on matchy-ness, and I have found thrift shops like SA and Goodwill to be excellent for collecting glassware & plates for next to nothing.
