Is it easy to clean? Will it look ok when it's covered in pet hair? Will it look awful or well-loved when it is inevitably scratched / spilled on by an animal, husband, guest or myself? Lifestyle Choices: What Do You Think About When Picking Furniture? |

If it were me, I wouldn't do much other than paint as long as everything is in good condition. It's pretty taste-specific, but I love bright, saturated citrus colors in kitchens -- orange, lemon yellow, lime-green ... I'd use something like that for the wall color and maybe a rug in front of the sink, and then see how I feel about the space once all my stuff is in it. What Next For This Move-in-Ready Kitchen? I have free rein for the most part, but no major decision is made without my husband's input. For our new place, I selected the general paint colors; he was doubtful so I showed him pictures of rooms with similar color schemes and he was sold. We grabbed a bunch of paint chips and he picked what ended up being the final colors. It's a work in progress, but that's how it works for most things -- I have an idea, get him on board, and then we make choices together. When Tastes Merge: One Home, One Too Many Opinions |

We painted the bathroom in our last place before we sold it and put in a new light fixture and I was amazed at how those 2 simple changes made such a big difference. And I don't think this bathroom needs a huge overhaul; but I'd get rid of the wallpaper border and update the vanity with more modern mirrors -- either simplify to one over each sink, or as another commenter suggested (and I've suddenly gone blind and can't find whose comment it was now) one large mirror. I'd also paint the vanity cabinets white to brighten it up a bit. Updates For This Bathroom in House For Sale? Good Questions |

I'm not big on matchy-ness, and I have found thrift shops like SA and Goodwill to be excellent for collecting glassware & plates for next to nothing. Cocktail Party on a Budget: Cheap Supplies, Booze & Music |
