Hi all,
I've tried this recipe from Vegangela and love it!
http://www.vegangela.com/2011/04/27/best-vegan-mac-and-cheese/
The only change I did was using less salt (I like salt but it was a bit too salty for me). I also recommend baking them. Enjoy!

For my project of choice I want to tackle decluttering. I should do the entryway closet, that is packed, but I'll start by decluttering my bedroom closet and chests of drawers first as I believe that will have the most impact. Good luck everyone!

Congrats on tackling the magazines! I have tons of them, mostly cooking mags, and find it hard to toss them even though I hardly ever read them after the initial read. I've been trying the same approach you mention of keeping in a file just the pages I think I may use someday. As you say, I also somehow doubt I'll use them much, but it makes tossing the magazines easier.
I've also been trying to get rid of books by donating them to my library's book sale. It's hard to part with some, but I want to make room for new books that match my current interests, and I have limited space so there's not much choice really. So far I got rid of about 50 books, it still doesn't show as I had them mostly stored in boxes out of sight, but it's a step forward. Good luck with your books!

Hi everyone,
Hope you're all feeling good about what you've accomplished so far.

@Pixie: It's not hard to assemble the Expedit bookshelves and they look really pretty. I assembled two (8 cubes each) by myself. It would have been faster if I had someone helping out, but you can do it on your own unless you got the large units in which case definitely ask for help.

Ok, so for day 3, I had flowers already so that's good, and I had already set out an outbox before Christmas (now I only need to actually take the stuff to donate!)
Yesterday I vacuumed the floors. Took me much longer than I thought, I was using a timer and had to reset it twice! And it's a small apartment... I also wanted to steam mop the floors but my H2O mop is not working. Aargh! I had just ordered new filters for it as that's the reason it's not producing steam, according to customer service. I cleaned it, tried all the manual said, but to no avail.

Can anyone recommend a good steam mop, preferably one that uses disposable pads? (Doing laundry in this building is slow, only two machines, so by the time I get one I don't want to throw in my clothes with the mop pads...) I have wooden floors and I'd really like to keep to the steam mop system, so I don't have to use floor cleaners that can get on my cat's paws.

Any suggestions will be much appreciated.
Good luck for tomorrow's assignment!

Day 3: Weekend Chores - Flowers, Floors, Green Cleaners & Outbox Apartment Therapy January Cure

Hi everyone ,

I'm in a rental, so I don't want to invest too much, but at the same time I want it to look nice, so I'll do my best.

My list is similar to what most of you have posted. I do have some stuff that I would like to do to help me carry out some tasks. e.g.: learning and daring to use the cordless drill I bought a year ago.

I would also like to find an easy way to clean the radiators (the vacuum and swiffers don't seem to reach well), and I'd love to paint them (I guess that will have to wait until the heating is turned off in the building).

Good luck everyone!

Sorry, on my previous question I meant Michael Lax...

Do you know if it is safe to cook on vintage enamelware pieces from Michael Lox? The one I'm considering buying says it's from the 70s. Thank you.

Hi everyone. Ok, so I find it super hard to let go of my books. I am a librarian and on top of all the stuff I borrow from the library, and advance reading copies I sometimes get for free, I purchase a lot of books, and have so many at home I really have no space for all of them. Plus I used to work at a bookstore and quite frequently kinda blew my paycheck buying books with staff discount, so tempting!

Anyway, here is a suggestion that I think hasn't been mentioned yet. When you finally decide which books you want to give away, you can do it through www.bookcrossing.com
It is free, and it is really cool! The way it works is you "release your books" for someone to find them and if you wish you can track where in the world they end up! So it's kinda the same as just leaving them out on your doorstep, but it gives you a chance of following the destiny of your once-loved books. It is all explained on the site, but basically you register your book on bookcrossing, then put a label inside of the book with a code, and "release" it wherever you want (a bench in a park, a coffee shop, wherever). If someone picks it up they will see the label and if they can log in to bookcrossing to say the book has been "caught". Then they can give it away again and eventually the book can actually end anywhere in the world!
I only found a book this way once, it was Anthem by Ayn Rand, someone had left it outside a bench at the library, and it was awesome!
Good luck everyone with your book/CDs/films weeding projects!
