There are huge varieties of Bamboo. We did a lot of research and went with strand-woven bamboo from Ambient (http://ambientbp.com/). They were great (based in Baltimore) and the bamboo they offer is harder than Brazilian Teak - it's phenomenal. Also, it is not nearly as porous as most woods so there is very little issue with seasonal variation. The one thing to be aware of is that it is INSANELY hard wood. Make sure your flooring people know what they are doing. If they don't then they are in for a surprise. Regular portable table saws and nail guns can struggle with this stuff. I live above a bar that used to be a very trendy club in the 80's (Madonna was a coat check girl here before she became famous). My living room used to be the VIP room for the club and my kitchen counter is still the original bar. A friend who is an actor and used to be part of the underground downtown music scene in that period was sitting on my couch one day looking around with a weird look on his face. Does anyone have some recommendations on putting in wood flooring. I have a nasty old carpet that MUST come out and I know there is a wood subfloor underneath but it is in terrible condition and in some cases it is heavily damaged. it's a rental but I've been here for years and plan to be for years to come so it's worth it to make an investment but not one that is insanely expensive. I need advice about what type of wood and where to go for installation. I'm thinking about checking out the Home Depot contractors - is that a terrible idea?
