I just got the Mandal bed yesterday! it seems a lot more sturdy than the last ikea bed i had (Hopen), and it's solid pine instead of particleboard which is nice. the drawers are hugeee. I'm diggin' it.

My boyfriend is friends with the girl who's riding the bike. She's super cool. She rides that crazy thing around everywhere, it's so awesome.

The reason they are so expensive is because Mike from ANT makes each bike by hand. By himself. He does everything from start to finish, including cutting the tubes, tacking and welding the frame, and powdercoating and finishing the frame. It's very time consuming - you can't make a bike in a day or two. it's a craft. and independent framebuilders are not rich people - they charge that much for bikes because they have to to make ends meet.
My boyfriend also builds bike frames (geekhousebikes.com) and knows Mike from ANT. His waiting list for a bike is up to about six months now. Some framebuilders like Sasha White from Vanilla Cycles aren't even taking orders anymore because his waiting list was about 6 years.
These handbuilt bikes are more than just bikes. They are fine pieces of craftsmanship, their components are of higher quality and last far longer than your typical bike, and the time and effort that goes in to making the frames is a lifelong passion for these builders.

I wonder where in Boston this is...I live in Boston and have a rented one bedroom and it's very similar to this. I wish cyclocs were a bit cheaper cause I totally want to get one for my bike too, it looks so awesome on the wall like that. also, nice bike! you said your brother built it? My boyfriend builds bike frames in Boston, I wonder if they know each other...

i have a large utility closet in my very small apartment, which could fit like 3 or 4 bikes. but since i ride it so much and that takes effort, i usually just leave it in the foyer leaning against a wall or my bookcase. i think i'm going to get a wall mount for it thoughm so it's not like always in the way.

the picture is misleading - the mattress isn't really white like that. I think they're just showing it with a white sheet over the top or something. The bottom part under the main part of the couch pulls out with two fabric handles (it's on casters)...it's kind of like a trundle bed. then it's on springs and pops up so it's level with the main part of the couch. it's really really easy.
