Yes...every apartment, actually. My current landlady asked that I run color choices past her so that she could okay them, first, since I'd expressed interest in painting. My intentions were good, but after picking up some samples pots, I got carried away, and before I knew it, I'd painted the entire place without ever telling the landlady. I was afraid to have her see it, but finally, after a few months, I had no choice, since she had to get into the apartment for something while I was at work. I left a note on the door that said "hope you like the place, and that it isn't too much of a surprise". She left me a one word response..."gorgeous". She's since asked me if it's okay to use it as a model for perspective tenants, so I guess it worked out fine. True Confessions: Have You Ever Painted a Rental Without Permission? Reader Survey |

Kristina beat me to the punch...Cow hide rugs are typically a by-product of the food industry, not a result of an animal being raised for its skin, alone. I'm not certain that the same can be said for leather that is used for footwear, bags, jackets, belts, etc. So, those hides can either be used for rugs, etc, or discarded. What's worse? I'm pretty certain that the sofa in the first photo isn't Mitchell Gold/Bob Williams. It's a Hutton, from Room and Board. Furniture & Interiors Inspired by TV Shows |

Hi there. I don't know if you were aware, but the Hess sofa, in addition to the Fifth Avenue family of leathers (the leather it is shown stocked in), is also available in several other leather families, including Bison, Brighton, Duval, Elmo, Flagstaff, Shimmer, and Sierra. In total, there are over 60 different leather selections to choose from. If you go to the website, and look at the Hess in leather, and choose "Customize It" under "See All Options", you can use the draping tool to look at all the leather choices. Maybe there's a color for you in there, somewhere. Good luck! Toddler-Friendly Sofa Choice? Good Questions |

I know that books arranged by color are a pet peeve to some, but I really like the way it works here. The photo highlightng the relationship between the Eames Hang-it-All rack and the books I think is pretty inspired, also. Love the orange globe fixture over the white table. And yes, the cat is bad-ass. Rustam's From Russia With Midcentury Love Studio House Tour |

Personally, I also find Emmi's tone to be off-putting, regardless of the message (with which I happen to agree). I understood immediately that AB was using sarcasm, but it sounds as if Emmi is too busy trying to prove she's right to actually listen to anyone else. Way to rally for the cause. In a crevice of my 1920 basement I found, wrapped in a hand-stiched flannel holder, a bamboo fly ffishing rod. Assembled, it must be 12 to 14 feet in length, and in great condition. Crazy Finds in New Homes Moving Week: Sponsored by Penske Truck Rental |

Hi Rayn, I use a mitt that you can pick up at places like PetSmart, Target, etc, made of that red velvety material used to make lint brushes. It's almost like an oven mitt made of the stuff, and I run it over anything the cats have been on. Works like a charm and lasts a really long time. the hair come off the mitt just as easily by rubbing it the opposite direction. Mike's New + Thrifted Style Mix House Tour |

Hey Pseudoscientist - I'm sorry I missed the other part to your question. The color in the kitchen is Palladian Blue from Benjamin Moore's Historic Collection. The color code is HC 144. I've used it a couple of times, now, and it's an interesting color. Sometimes blue, sometimes green. I was more or less inspired by the blue green of some of my pottery pieces, and it just feels like a color that might have been used in a kitchen from the 20s. Mike here, again. For those interested, my neighborhood is Rogers Park. The building is a 1928 European style about 2 blocks from the lake. Good neighbors, tree-lined street, and a wonderful landlady. Mike's Original Details Small Cool Contest |
