Oh my gosh, who knew the tv wall would cause such a ruckus. I am going to address some of the comments, not to be defensive, but maybe people will find it interesting, I don't know.

First, the credenza was a thrift shop find. The piece jutting out kinda bugged me and I toyed with having the contractor even it up, but the client didn't mind it. Normally there is a firkin bucket that sits under there and balances things out. However it was competing with the Albini ottoman in this shot, so was moved during styling. As far as the size of the art, we had some existing pieces and the top pieces are pretty close to the molding. Sure the TV could be lower, but its not. Having the TV on this wall makes it viewable from either side of the room (it extends and tilts) and it is also not the first thing staring you in the face when you enter the apartment. However, the rest of the space is pretty edited and I didn't want things feeling too perfect or pristine. The client leans toward classic tastes, but is still young, in their 30s. Books, books, everywhere books. The client is a voracious reader. I would find opened New Yorkers and books all over the place. I filled the shelves in the office, which you can see in photos on my website, AND I edited out stacks of books which are stored in a cabinet. However, this is part of who the client is, so I didn't care to hide the books in the living space. Also, the art relates to the client. The abstract photo was taken in Menorca, part of the client's family heritage. The abstract water color is titled Central Park, which is nearby. The lighthouse drawing is a remembrance of the family summer house. The architectural drawing was a gift from the client's sister and the painting above was done by her. I hope the client feeling these personal touches outweighs any concern over how perfect or imperfect it looks. Phew, I think that is it for the TV wall.

The paint on the walls in the bedroom may read a little blue or purple, it has those undertones, but it is gray. The room gets tons of sun and so it does read really gray most of the time. It is Benjamin Moore Dior Gray. The Lane dresser was done up in BM California Blue. It is bright, but really keeps that room from being too heavy and serious. It also pulls the blue out of the rug, which I may have to return and steal one day! Plus, the client spends most of the time in the main living space.

@galval you have good taste. That Drexel armoire is awesome, love that you still have yours. I too love the tree trunk table base - it is massive and does weigh a ton. It cost more to ship than to purchase. If anyone knows who makes those bentwood chairs, let me know. I love them too! Recently saw a restaurant full of them in a movie and gasped out loud.

Thanks again for all the comments. I am always down for a discussion, happens all the time with clients and keeps me on my toes. Resources and info on all the rooms will go up on my website journal this weekend jilldanyelle.com

Have a great weekend!

Wow, guys. This just went up and there are only a handful of comments, but I am already bowled over. I really worked so hard on every aspect of this space, so I am super pleased AT has allowed me to share it. Thanks for the positive comments. I appreciate the observations about the space being grown up. The client gravitated toward a more classic aesthetic, but I also knew this was an investment of their hard earned money, so I really tried to pick pieces with longevity.

I am also okay with people politely weighing in on what they don't like. A few comments on the TV wall... As I said in the post, we did consider a color for the paint, which I do think would have looked good, and if the budget had allowed I would've thrown grass cloth up on those walls for sure. Still, I am pleased with how it turned out and, more importantly, the client is happy. Interior design is (or should be) a collaboration with the client to create a space for them, so we discussed different options for many aspects of the project. For the TV, we considered a large vintage cabinet as well. I showed the client the gallery wall idea too and that is what we decided to go with. As we used large mirrors on a few of the other walls, we also needed a wall for some art, so it worked out. And, @Pi is right, the minimal white space at the top is due to the low angle this particular photo was taken from, when standing and looking straight on, the white spaces are more balanced.

Thanks again - and I swear I didn't pay @Susan4260 ! What nice things to say, you seriously made my day. @Gloria205 there are over 20 images of this space on my website jilldanyelle.com and I will try to put up a post on the journal today with some behind the scenes, before & afters and resources for anyone who is interested.

@merkervil - ditto on the previous comments... eBay. sometimes you can also get lucky on craigslist, but there is more to choose from on eBay.

I am in NYC and just got a beautiful 9 x 11 Karastan rug for a client. I think the seller was Bucks County Traders. Even with the cost of delivery it was well below the expense of a new rug of the same quality. We even budgeted for cleaning, just in case, but it was fine without.

A quick search turned up this one.

Good luck!

I can barely fit myself in my teeny tiny bathroom, but I did fit a ventless LG combo washer/dryer unit in my kitchen... http://ow.ly/8RYWW ...under the counter to the left of the sink. I downsized appliances and reconfigured the kitchen to be more open and allow space for the w/d. I will say that condensation dryers do take some getting used to. I do smaller, more frequent loads and pull the clothes out a bit damp to hang dry. If you dry them all the way, they become quite wrinkled - especially wovens. As a previous commenter noted, it does also take some time for the unit to dry clothing. Still, I couldn't be happier that I no longer need to deal with a laundromat.

I painted all of my walls and floors white about 18 months ago. I used to have a lot of color, but when I decided to renovate, I was really drawn to the calm feel of all white spaces. Wood and natural textures keep it from feeling to cold and stark. I live in NYC and have a stimulating job, so having a calm atmosphere at home is great. The white really opened up the space. I love it.

To address some of the above comments... I am not an obsessive cleaner - luckily, the space is small. I swiffer about every other day and do an occasional mop. As someone else mentioned, the "magic eraser" sponge works wel. It really is amazing. I recently thought I might have to repaint some spots, but I used the 'eraser' and it completely brightened up the paint.

I didn't feel bad painting over the wood because it was not in good condition. I used low/no VOC paint, Ivy Coatings, mixed in BM Chantilly Lace, which has proven to be a really nice neutral white. Ivy Coatings makes primer and floor paint. I bought it at Green Depot.

Hope this was helpful for anyone wanting to take the all white plunge. The space can be seen here if you are interested... http://ow.ly/7kjh6
