I'm envious not only of your square-footage (2,000 sf apartment in Hollywood! WTF?!?), but also of that large metal thing behind the green couch. Whatever it is, it's very cool.

I'm with CanadianMango on the TV placement. It blocks light and the view, and probably make TV watching hard on the eyes. I can't imagine it's good for the electronics either.

I agree with TIFFANYSEATTLE on the furniture placement. It looks like guests at the front door would get a lovely view of the back of the TV and console. Not a great way to say "Welcome to our home!"

Some fun, quirky collections. And Grace sports one of AT's best hairdos in recent memory!

There's so much I like about this place (the bedroom wallpaper, the yellow lamp by the fireplace, the teal poufs, the industrial bar cart, the "window seat", etc.), but I find myself hung up on two annoying little details:
1) Limes in the apothecary jars by the fireplace. They scream "staging" to me. They're gonna be a fruit-fly fiesta in about 2 days!
2) The interesting white candle-holders crammed on the second shelf on either side of the fireplace (right next to #1). They feel like they need some breathing room since the candles are just barely clearing the shelf above. I assume you move them elsewhere before lighting them — unless that's your "fire corner" in the Feng Shui!

What a beautiful home. The careful accessorizing and space planning make this place look WAY bigger than 475 sf. I love the kitchen island — a stylish solution that I'm sure doubles as a dining table.

Cute family. Big, beautiful house with lots of personality. I love the tree trunks (painted or decals?) in the upstairs hall. That'd be a fun way to display family photos — on a big family tree.

I'm sure the naysayers are mostly just jealous of the abundant space — I know I am. It does look a little staged, but a lot of that probably has to do with the huge space not filled with lots of stuff and the fact that they just finished a bunch of projects right before the photo shoot. I'm sure if we revisit in 5 years, there'll be a lot more treasures filling up the 3,600 sf.

Beautiful! Oh to have such x-ray vision when shopping at yard sales and thrift stores.

Wow, what a great space! So much personality packed into a tiny space, without it looking crowded. It's crazy — in a good way. :)

Carrie –

When you're on pregnancy bedrest, you're RESTING in BED (or on the couch) 90% of the time — not rearranging your bedroom and living room furniture.

To your assertion that "the topic of this post is certainly design related", I respectfully call shenanigans. While I'm sure you could reverse rationalize any article to fit Apartment Therapy's mission, I agree with most of the comments that the site seems to be straying from its core focus as of late.

This shift is reminiscent of the evolution of Martha Stewart Living over the past few years into a high-brow Family Circle. (Incidentally, I cancelled my MSL subscription recently after getting it for 15+ years.)

I would suggest that you take your reader comments to heart and skip the defensive replies.

I'm not a huge fan of the pattern, either. I liked the pop of yellow, especially against the gray couch/chair.

What bothers me is the fact that the pattern doesn't line up on the different surfaces. It's like an inexpensive shirt where the patterns don't line up at the seams.

But ultimately, if you love it, that's all that really matters.

(BTW: Kudos for wrangling the contact paper though — it's not an easy thing to work with.)

One of my favorite home tours! What a great, eclectic mix of high-end and low-end furniture and furnishings. Your art and tchotchkes are great, too.

I love the floor lamp behind the Nakashima table. Pray tell, where is it from?

I suppose that the "leg warmers" prevent the table from returning to it's flattened position. And there must be a giant knot in the rope on the top of the table; perhaps it's concealed by the framed photo.

I have an aversion to TV trays. They're always slightly too high to comfortably eat and they always seem to be incredibly unstable.

Those self-inflating Aero beds can be expensive ($100-200+). And I wonder what you do if they spring a leak?

Check out the Coleman 4-in-1 air mattress. It's less than $50 and features 2 detachable twin mattresses that can be used as 2 single-height twin beds, 1 double-height twin bed, or 1 single-height king bed. You need to purchase a separate pump ($20), but it's still cheaper than an AeroBed.

The mattresses are flocked, but I still recommend using a separate mattress pad.

They're actually quite comfortable, though you may want to give grandma and grandpa your bed and sleep on the air mattress yourself, as the lack of height and occasional "waterbed" effect can be challenging for some.

The other added benefit is that they're easily portable — they roll up neatly — so you can use them on a camping trip or when you're the guest at someone else's house.

Good Questions

It's all very tasteful and put together, but looks a bit like it's been staged for an open house. I wish there were a few surprises here and there to give it more life and personality.

A beautiful, warm, cozy home.

As for the feng shui, I'm pretty sure that a 30 lb. Le Creuset grill pan hanging over a doorway isn't contributing much harmony and balance to the household. I'd venture to say that it's downright dangerous -- especially with a toddler around.
