I have concrete floors and they're great for Alfie (our 110lbs Great Pyrenees), but terrible wrt foot fatigue.

My parents have oak floors and a yellow lab, but their floors look fantastic, and are only starting to show signs of scratching after 8yrs of wear. I'm told that the key is to keep your dog's nails trimmed to keep scratching to a minimum.

Bamboo, Cork, or Wood Flooring for (Future) Dog Owners? Good Questions

When home, my boyfriend and I forgo pants. I'm usually in an off-the-shoulder tee and undies, he's usually in boxer briefs and an old t-shirt. No one in our household - save for the dog who always manages to look dapper - would be ready to be seen, let alone attend a party in our honor.

As a young, educated, and financially independent woman, I'm very skeptical and wary of marriage. I often feel like my male partner gets the better end of the deal. I always end up taking up more than my share of responsibilities. It's not fair, it's not nice...but I it's the reality of the unspoken gender roles thrust upon us as children. It's certainly not relationship-specific, men seem to come out undeservedly ahead of women in many aspects of life.

As a woman, I'm putting my career and future at serious risk for not a lot of gain when it comes to marriage. That said, I'm happy for those who decide to take the risk.

Could you not refinish his high-quality table to make it more fitting for a modern space?
It's amazing what I change in finish/color can do!

I have a tendency to get rid of as much IKEA as possible. I love their stuff and they do make some pieces that are keepers, but my bf and I find that IKEA pieces can look very cheap and listless next to high quality furniture.

Quality or Style: When Compromise is Necessary, Which One Wins?

During college my friends and I shared a 5 bedroom flat in an old Victorian converted for student housing. One night while procrastinating from studying for exams, we went into the basement and opened the door to the crawlspace under the stairs.

Turns out the landlord had thrown everything left behind by the various students over the years under the stairs. We found a box of CDs, posters, furniture, etc... we had a blast going through the stuff in there. I still have a couple of those 'found CDs'.

Lauren and Kyle: I love your house! My boyfriend and I frequently creep your blog for ideas and inspiration (Jules really really covets your bathroom...it's so fantastic). I love that you've managed to do all this yourselves with Bailey and Felix in the mix! :) Good luck! I'd vote for you guys a hundred times if I could! :)

These balconies are all HUGE in comparison to my 4 x 2.5 ft ledge. How are these in anyway tiny?

I agree that most of the home owners seem to be glowing with pride in their photos and that makes them more attractive. I also agree that the "Airstream guy" should most definitely have been included in this post.

@gretchenE: I don't see how pointing out that someone has a great sense of design AND happens to be attractive to boot is objectifying.

I have two sets of Corelle Enhancements dinner wear that's simple and elegant. I love this stuff because it's durable, light, and cheap enough that if it breaks I won't be heart broken. I feel safe putting it in the dishwasher. The sets were purchased for me by my mom when I moved out for undergrad, they have lasted me through grad school and still look like new!

I have a nicer set of handmade Japanese china that I insist on washing by hand with a soft cloth. All of the Asian china and utensils I inherited from my parents are used daily but need to be washed by hand to prevent damage. :/

As a guest, I couldn't care less what I'm served on. I think its rude not appreciate the gesture and hospitality, whatever the dinnerware provided.

For my own parties, I have a small set of flatware (enough for 6 people). However as a graduate student with limited funds, disposable is a must for large parties.

I've recently discovered party rental companies which will rent out flatware, wine glasses etc for around $4 Cdn for a dozen of each dinnerware item. I might go that route in the future. I live in a small space with limited storage so I don't wan't to be in possession of piles and piles of dinnerware. Rental seems like it might be a good solution.
