don't pull the trigger too fast (normally people say the first place you see). there WILL be other places you love, even if you think you love the first one. don't get sucked into the process and feel like the last place you saw will be the best ever and you're never going to find one better because you will. especially in this market.

you shouldn't have to compromise on anything - before you start seeing places, create a list of what you want/don't want. once you start seeing places, refine this list so you know what you're looking for.

if you're in an apartment building, check the soundproofing and ventilation. visit at different times of day. you could hear your neighbors and not know it if you visit while everyone's working.

if only you could test drive homes like you can test drive cars.

I bought the same black chandelier from great chandeliers (but from a different website - http://www.csslighting.net/ - they seem to have a bunch out there, unless they actually are all different).

While their response can be slow and their directions terrible, I've been pleasantly surprised by their responsiveness. I broke one of the arms and then discovered later that another was broken (it took me over a month to unpack because I was painting the LR). They replaced both of them without charge. It did take a while to send out, but I'd attribute it to them being a small shop and therefore mediocre customer service, and not to because they didn't want to fulfill my request. I'd order from them again.

those fishies have about 2 inches to go back and forth - the end of the video showed them bouncing back and forth between the walls.

i'm choose an OC and picked up the OC fan deck since i've gone through too many samples already.

i'm painting a living/dining area with orange-brown wood kitchen cabinets and a brick wall with brown mortar. been having a tough time with colors, but i think i'm getting close. trying to pick a warm color with a hint of brown and no red or orange, and not too yellow.

has anyone tried muslin OC-12? i think it might be too dark due to the brown mortar.

i did try ballet white, but it looks very flat and it's also cool.

any other suggestions?

Want to test your skills in a paint choosing challenge? I'm in need of advice on choosing paint color(s) for a living/dining area in my condo. I've got high ceilings and the walls wrap around each other such that there's not a good clean break (see photos for details), making it challenging for me to choose color. But, I'm design-challenged, which is why I seek your wonderful knowledge.

I'm totally open for advice. I'm thinking of grey as the main color. One of the walls will be exposed brick (noted in the photos). I'm also considering an accent wall or accent colors/art using wall decals or wallpaper. I'm also planning to get a black chandelier for the kitchen.
