We JUST did exactly what you suggested. Rather than foam board, we used an engineered wood cut to the same size as the wire shelves. While it's not as pretty as what's done here, it makes a huge difference. My spices no longer topple over each other and it's just easier to find things in general. We have a neato, and I agree with STH that it involves some preparation before vacuuming. After several failed attempts, we've finally figured out exactly what we need to move/hide so that the little guy doesn't get stuck (otherwise we come home to sad beeping from wherever it's gotten itself jammed). Personally, I'd rather just get out a vacuum and go to town, but there's definitely a benefit to programming the thing and not having to think much about it. I'm from Hawaii, and I agree that both Haupia and Mochi are great ideas! Butter mochi is always a hit -- here's a recipe. My personal favorite is the guava chiffon cake, which is easy to get in Hawaii at any Zippy's, but takes a bit of time to make at home. What Would Be a Good Hawaiian Dessert to Make for a Luau? Always exciting to see other Portland homes -- and the kitchen is lovely! Really hoping to do butcher block in my kitchen and would love to know how it's holding up as well. Charley & Jessica's "Patina Clean" House Tour |

Knees, that's a brilliant idea! I've been mixing raspberry jam into my Greek yogurt, so maybe almond butter and jam yogurt would keep me full for longer. The Other Nut Butter: Almond ButterIngredient Spotlight |

I can't wait to see what you do with it! As someone who lives in a house from 1985 (complete with blue counter tops), I understand the itch to overhaul. :) Looking forward to the next three weeks worth of posts. Introducing The World's Ugliest Condo Renovation Diary |

Don't forget the folks over at Young House Love! Their office is gorgeous and features lovingly stenciled walls, a fabulous chandelier, and cabinetry that I think they got for something like $6. Yes, yes, yes! This American Life; Fresh Air; Wait, Wait, Don't Tell me...public radio in general is always a great companion that fills up these otherwise vacant spaces of my life with something wholly satisfying. Whenever I'd listen to podcasts while riding the T in Boston, I always felt better about the commute -- like I'd gotten something done (like exercise...for your brain!) Gorgeous! I love seeing what people can do with small spaces. I'm always so impressed with the creativity in creating storage and the illusion of there being much more space than you'd imagine. Mai's Cozy Closet Home Office |

That bathtub is to die for! My friends in London all have these lovely bathtubs with what I call the telephone sprayer, and they have the ability to make you feel like such a lady. Must say, though, feeling feminine in this house is likely not a problem -- what gorgeous ladies in a gorgeous home! Shiva's Eclectic, Romantic Modern Ranch House Tour |

@MrsBerg: I completely agree! I need about 9 hours of sleep to function properly -- I also work at home, so 9-5 just doesn't work for me. And when I have had to work 9-5 jobs, I've ended up dragging myself around. We're all different, people need to celebrate that rather than turning their noses up at it! My favorite thing about working from home (aside from occasionally working in my bathrobe) is that I get to decorate a room, when previously I've only been able to decorate a cubicle. A note about pets though -- if your cat, like mine, likes to sleep on your keyboard consider letting him/her have a desktop pillow. Mine will sleep contentedly on a heating pad (on low) for hours on end! No heating pad = no work completed. 10 Steps to a Home Office You'll Love |

I love Pinterest because it does for me what bookmarks are supposed to do -- ie: it used to be that I'd bookmark something and then totally forget about it. Since I'm a visual person, and because I like to check out Pinterest regularly for inspiration, I find that I actually go back to the things I pinned, like recipes. This makes my life so much easier! Also, I seem to be following people with great taste -- I agree that the inspirational quotes would be annoying. But I do love seeing the beautiful things that I wouldn't find on my own. I think this house is warm, inviting, and so elegant in a totally liveable way. And I love that it's in Beaverton! We just bought a house about 10 minutes from Beaverton and absolutely love the area...though, that said, it's rare to find a home with such personality, which means that this one is a testament to the great taste of these owners.
