This is a question for Scott rather than a comment....do you find that having the bathrooms completely tiled made the space seem larger or smaller (or neither)? I am thinking of doing the same thing, but our bathroom is not very large and I would hate to make it seem closed in. Great place by the way - I love the courtyard, and the blue tones throughout make me very happy. It looks fantastic! I actually did make the platform bed in Todd Oldham's book. It was completely sturdy, and cost about 170 bucks. May I also suggest the Tendy Dining chair. http://www.stacksandstacks.com/html/109147_tendy-dining-chair-set-of-4.htm It is essentially the exact same chair as the Jake, but less expensive by close to $100 (for a set of 4). I have been reading AT for a few months now, and I finally registered in order to answer this post. I moved to DC a while ago, but lived in Oakland for over 6 years. I started out in North Oakland/Temescal and then moved to Lake Merritt for almost three years. BEST CITY EVER. I feel that Oaktown is completely underrated. The lake is beautiful, you can be hiking in the redwoods in ten minutes, in downtown SF in ten minutes, all without the price tag of SF. I LOVE OAKLAND. It has its gritty elements, but it is one of the most diverse, interesting places I have ever been. And the crime can easily be avoided if you just stay clear of certain areas....the majority of the city is safe, diverse, beautiful, and friendly. MOVE THERE.
