In reply to rjzii and tiedye DC: quite perspicacious of you both, an even more to-the-point reason for being perplexed. I'd like to hear more from Silvana.

There's no such thing as student housing in Italy: all apartments must be built in compliance with a number of guidelines. Buildings for students are a different story: they are more similar to hotels: just single or twin rooms with own bathroom plus shared services such as self service restaurant, reading room etc. Student often use bed&breakfasts in private homes, too.
Frankly, I doubt Silvana's apartment is real. I might be wrong, but it might very well have been realized for a show or some sort of architectural contest, or advertising, or university graduation or research group essey.

Also: about the bidet, no Italian bathroom lacks one, in spite of shower but no bathtub.

Yes, wow. But: in Italy apartments are not allowed to be less than 20 or 25 sqmts (according to regions), and bathrooms are not allowed to open directly into livings, dining rooms or kitchens. So the apartment is an 'outlaw'. Good looking and non observant of rules, as it often is in Italy, helas.

About throw pillows: worn out shirts (especially checks or stripes patterns) and sweaters make nice covers. Just use the front and back, and you won't even need a zip: just place the buttoned part on the front. Or, knit covers, it's very trendy in Italy this fall.
Very interesting and inspiring posts! Thanks.

I love them all! And thanks indeed for suggesting a way to conceal a chipped corner: I'll look for the little metal things tomorrow. I've already taken your advice about primer-primer-primer before painting and let dry A LONG TIME, and could do very good transforming jobs.
