I think it's fine. It's just living pretty much like how most people, especially toddlers lived before MAYBE the 80s when it was all a "new new new" era of excess and pointless extravagances as social merit badges anyway. You got hand me down shoes. You got hand me down EVERYTHING, especially if you were the youngest kid.

Your mom or your mom's mom or your dad just learned to clean things properly.

Someone in your family pretty much lived like this and was fine. But you have a crop of people since the Great Depression who "wanted a better life for their kids", who had kids who wanted an exponentially better life for THEIR kids, and so on until children became so indulged and pampered that people seem to forget that something ridiculous like 400 million children live in dire poverty right this second who might actually not be fine because unlike this kid they DON'T have adequate food and medical care.

This kid will be totally fine. A few bumps in around the time kids start picking on each other for their clothing and nonsensical crap like that, but as more and more people ARE trying to raise their children in a more consumerist-concious way, it's possible that this will be a non-issue when the kid goes to school. Heck, it might even make him look hip and cool to his classmates when he shows his creativity from him and him mom making toys out of household stuff.

Maybe some people should stop being aghast at what this kid is wearing and ensure that they raise THEIR children not to make fun of people for their lack of material things and maybe the world will be a better place. Because that is a LEARNED behavior.

I vouch for the Give and Take. I wish the rest of the world operated like that.

I wonder if Marimekko ever produced vinyl...

Because you and I both know you need more room for at least one more Stokke Trip Trapp so both your children are covered, and you need a dining room table style that will fit better with those chairs since you will have them for a long time as your kids grow. I would get a second Trip Trapp, paint it red, and go from there.

Call your friend Aimee who has refinished furniture and has a staple gun, she will glue them back together for you, help you sand, tung oil them and raid her fabric stash to see if there is enough cast-off crap to refinish (which is possible). Ultimately those chair should probably have vinyl cushions. It will make them attractive to potential buyers who may want them for practical reasons (ease of clean up), period accuracy, and a bright bold color would look stunning. Then sell them. Because the set is too big for your kitchen anyway.
