I love it! I get tired of seeing pot racks from the ceiling and this one is completely unobtrusive!

I've been thinking about buying a sheet of plastic (something thin) to place over the stove when it's not in use. Then, even if he got up there, I wouldn't be as worried about the hygiene issues.

What Can I Make With Cake Flour? Good Questions

I'm throwing a brunch baby shower next weekend and have been scouring the internet for dishes myself. The list above is excellent and I definitely plan to do a strata myself.

However, this list is heavy on the breakfast and you can open things up with some more savory/lunch-y items.

Here's my proposed menu (subject to change due to availability of items at the grocery):
strata (http://annies-eats.com/2010/03/15/spinach-and-cheese-strata/)
mini sandwiches (croissant)
fruit kebabs
dips with bread and veggies (http://www.glutenfreeconfessions.com/2011/08/25/whats-your-favorite-dip/)
pasta salad (http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/food-network-kitchens/garden-pasta-with-bocconcini-recipe/index.html)
potato salad (http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ina-garten/potato-salad-recipe/index.html)
brie and raspberry cups (http://gimmesomeoven.com/brie-raspberry-phyllo-cups/)
cupcakes

Some of these recipes are tried and true and I highly recommend them. Have a great party and congrats on your new place!

Strata!! My favorite is spinach and cheese from Annie's eats. It can easily be halved and baked in an 8 by 8 pan. (I recommend metal over glass since it's gets crisper and sauteeing fresh spinach since I don't like frozen.) http://annies-eats.com/2010/03/15/spinach-and-cheese-strata/

I totally agree with the cookie suggestion. Teaism here in DC serves those kind of shortbread cookies and they're delish. Also, I'm sure you could incorporate it into many other types of subtly flavored baked goods...perhaps angel food cake or pound cake?

veggie and cheese quiche cups! Saute veggies; while they are cooking, mix 4 eggs (about 3/4 of total eggs) and 3/4 cup of grated cheddar cheese. Let the veggies cool a little, mix with eggs and cheese, and bake for 15-20 at 350 in greased foil cups. They reheat easily and taste great!

These quiche cups are a lifesaver! They're easy to freeze or just make and reheat.

Egg and Spinach Quiche Cups
2-3 cups fresh spinach
4 eggs
3/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1 t olive oil
assorted veggies sauteed to remove water (I did spinach and tomatoes)

Saute veggies in olive oil. Line a 12 cup muffin tray with 6 foil baking cups. Spray the cups with cooking spray. Combine the eggs, cheese, and veggies in a bowl.
Divide evenly among the cups.
Bake at 350 for 15-20 minutes or until knife inserted comes out clean.
May then be frozen if desired.
