Kudos on the transformation. Would love to see some before and after photos of this one. Love that this is in my home city - I guessed Hong Kong at first.

Just a question about the ceiling - the finish is so ubiquitous with apartments in Brisbane and a personal pet peeve of mine. Was it a conscious decision to embrace the plaster pattern or is it too difficult/expensive to cover or re-finish?

Wow. I know there must be so many cool and useful tricks out there. Always good to find a new one that will be put to use regularly. Love it.

We didn't have typing at school (Australia, I'm 30 now) and I managed to avoid computers all together until I was 18 and had to write essays at uni. Self taught typing and rarely look at the keyboard - I find that I'm slower and make more mistakes if i look.

My problem is more that as a graphic designer I use a tablet and pen instead of a mouse and often type while holding the pen in my right hand (it would waste so much time putting it down every time). So half the time I end up typing using only three or four fingers on my right hand and five on the other. I've never really thought too much about it till now, I guess it's just about adapting to what works best for you.

I'm having trouble at the moment trying to find a simple and attractive railing design that actually meets code. The regulations in Australia are super tight - I know it's for a good reason, but it does seem to ever increasingly restrictive. Just about every single railing/balustrading design I see online or on TV doesn't meet the code (even many glass railings don't comply, particularly the frameless variety).

I'd like to see more well designed railings that are safe too. In the design world this should be seen as a major requirement and key challenge in designing balustrading and not something to ignore or add on after the 'pretty' photo has been taken.

Great look and so versatile. With a tweak or two I'd happily have this as my bedroom. Love the narrow book ledge with the covers facing out - the kids' books work so well as art.

Hmm, I agree. Don't mess with the Mac. Its styling is beautiful already. There are a million other ways to satisfy a crafty/pattern/embellishment need.

What's that hanging plant in number 5? It looks like a lovely, draping chandelier. Very pretty.

To me it really depends on the content that I'm watching. If it's a beautifully shot movie, absolutely it has to be crystal clear true HD (viewed on a correctly calibrated display - so many TVs look crap simply because they're not set up properly), whereas it doesn't bother me too much if regular TV shows are SD. Bad compression and the wrong aspect ratio are things that irk me more (yes, I do adjust poorly set up TVs in hotel rooms).

Definitely looking forward to when the formats are all standardised as 16:9 HD - there's so much mixed content out there. We've gone backwards in Australia with most free to air content at standard def, then up scaled when watching on an HD TV, eek.

I think the video is nice new perspective, but only as supplementary to a written article. It somehow lowers the tone and feels a bit more like an ad.

I found it interesting to see the actual showrooms rather than just styled photos. Really makes me appreciate how people select pieces and incorporate them into their own setting as I didn't like the overall look of any of the showroom set ups.

Langham Place Hotel, Hong Kong - amazing.

Any suggestions for Singapore?

Loving all the comments. Will definitely bookmark for future reference as I love staying in places with personalities and great locations that are off the tourist map.

I agree that if you can see you bed from other areas it makes a huge difference if it is made or not. I have moved into an apartment where I can see the bed most of the time (still don't have doors on the room 18 months into renovating) and it does make me feel happy to see it all neat, tidy and inviting.

Simply pulling the doona up and taking a few seconds to arrange a couple of pillows makes me feel more organised and on top of things.

The best thing is that this apartment is a holiday rental! My friend just stayed here for a couple of nights and I have it on the top of my list for next time I'm in town. Will be fun to take the rotating bookshelf for a test drive.

Loving this post!

Our family friends had a secret door in their kitchen (!) that looked just like the pantry next to it, but you opened it to reveal a spiral staircase that lead down to a whole hidden apartment! Amazing and so magical as a kid.

Other favourites are sunken lounge with shagpile carpet (and this was the 80s) leading off to a dark den with full size billiard table, which we'd play underneath.

We just put a pinball machine in our inner city apartment, fun.

I actually love having a very traditional and common name 'Jane', but it's really surprising how few other Janes I meet. It's big as a middle name.

It baffles me when people try to spell my name by adding letters, like 'Jayne'. My favourite terrible spelling is 'Joolie' for Julie. Come on, the english language is taking a battering as it is without the nonsensical spelling of 'normal' names.

We didn't even have a check list and were interested in anything that we could actually afford in the area we wanted to live. Location was everything and we did give up on buying a house and land, but ended up with an apartment that takes up the whole top floor and has amazing views.

It's bigger than most of the houses we were looking at (3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms) and the location is perfect. The apartment was an achievable first time renovation project, which we're still finishing over a year later. Very happy to not have a house and back yard for the time being.

Being from Australia, I'm often fascinated to read people's opinions and strong points of view on topics that I didn't think were that controversial. Like Britain, down in Australia we generally wear shoes inside our homes. As in most things, I would consider communication and mutual respect the key to resolving the matter in each situation.

It would be more unusual, but not unheard of, to be requested to remove your shoes, however I think this is becoming more of a trend, particularly if it's a new house. You generally get to know if it's a shoes on or off house (is there a pile of shoes at the door?), or ask if you're not sure. Due to our weather, I'd kick my shoes off at a good friend's house in summer; it's just more comfortable for me (and means you can curl up more on the couch - I'd never put my feet on the couch with shoes on and it would be considered rude and dirty). I work at home and generally don't wear shoes around the apartment. My boyfriend on the other hand, doesn't ever remove his beloved Converse, at our place or anyone else's. I'd hardly recognise him without them on.

Having just laid a floating wooden floor by hand (a labour of love), I would hate to see big scratches and stiletto dents appear after a party (general scuffing, fine, it's a floor after all). As long as people wipe their shoes on a door mat before coming in, I don't have a problem with it (we don't have snow where I live). Although, I am considering including a humorous note in a house warming invite about not wearing stilettos. I'd feel a bit pompous to insist people remove their shoes in my home, but it is nice to be asked.
