@tasterspoon - several good ideas for using your jars here, but if you don't want to - just recycle them! Glass is very recycleable and they are finding lots of great uses for recycled glass these days (like glass countertops, etc.). Or, donate them to a thrift store. I buy unsalted only. I can always add salt, if desired and this way I have complete control over the salt flavor and sodium content of my food. Salted or Unsalted Butter: Which One? Reader Survey |

I still use plastic bags for storing greens and such (like you, it's about the only place I still do use plastic) - I just use and reuse and reuse. If you're just storing greens, the bags should still be pretty clean, and if not, you can turn them inside out, wash them, let them air dry and use again. When you finally get to the point where you can't use them anymore, they CAN be recycled - you can put them in the plastic grocery bag recycling bin at your grocery store. Until I find another method that is as easy, works as well and takes up as little space in my fridge, I'll keep doing this. I have yet to taste an artificial sweetener that didn't taste artificial. However, I haven't tried Truvia yet and I've heard good reports. The fact that it comes from a natural source makes me feel a little better about it, but we'll see. My kitchen is terrible - it is the original kitchen installed when the house was built in 1979 and nothing has ever been upgraded. Until now, I've resisted doing anything because I kept thinking "I just need to gut the whole thing." But I recently changed my mind. I don't know if I'll *ever* have the money to completely redo the kitchen, so instead of just living with it, I'm going to start doing the little things - repaint, fix the broken drawers, new backsplash, etc. Might as well make it as good as possible while I hope to win the lottery, right? I just sent a note to our local Farmer's Market organizers about this issue. This past weekend at the FM, I bought a pound of cremini mushrooms for $6 / lb, then went over to Whole Foods and saw the exact same mushrooms - from the same vendor even - at just $3.99 / lb. I'm all about supporting local farmers and such, but I can't afford to pay twice as much for the privilege. Are Restaurants Causing the Price of Farmers Market Veggies to Soar? |

I use PlanToEat.com. I can "snip" online recipes using their bookmarklet, as well as type in my own recipes. Then I can read the recipe on my iphone while I'm cooking (would love to have an ipad for this, so it's a bit larger) and not waste paper. But of course, you can always print the recipes as well. I find it very convenient. Best Way to Organize Recipes from Many Sources? Good Questions |

@Jess13 - I feel your pain, sistah! I have the exact same problem. My boyfriend is a die-hard Texas born, grease and junk food lovin' man. Although he has gotten used to me making stuff from scratch a lot, there are still a lot of times that he just rejects things outright because they don't look like the processed junk from a box he grew up eating. No way he would do this challenge either. Eating Real: The October Unprocessed Challenge |

Pretty pricey for every day use. I save them for tough marks and things I can't get out with my usual homemade cleaners and a rag. I did find some generic brand ones at Wal-Mart though. Seem to work the same, but less expensive. Still too expensive for everyday though, plus it's made from a petroleum product and I try to limit use of those as much as possible. Homemade is totally the winner here for me. Although you have to plan ahead so it can chill, they are super easy to make. Plus, I believe they freeze rather well, including as individual slices. So, take a day and make one (or a couple!), slice it and freeze the slices. Then you only have to defrost a single slice whenever you're in the mood. Make or Buy? Cheesecake |

I've been using Ziplist.com and like it a lot (free). But recently I signed for a free trial of PlantoEat.com and I like it even better. It has a yearly cost, but it has a slick menu planner I like a lot and it imports recipes very nicely. Simplify Your Kitchen: Managing Recipe Clutter Digitally The Wall Street Journal |

Absolutely! It's oppressively hot and humid here in the Houston area, and my old house has crappy A/C, so it's really bad even inside the house. However, we've got a new A/C unit on the way (maybe next week!) so I'm looking forward to being able to cook in cool bliss soon! Do You Lose Motivation to Cook in the Summertime? |

My favorite app is Ziplist (free). Ziplist.com allows you to save recipes you find online (I have hundreds), and also has a separate grocery list function. You can add recipes to your shopping list, as well as create checklists of regular items that you need. Then I can access all of it from my iphone - the grocery list while I'm shopping and the recipes when I'm cooking. Totally free. Love it! Kitchen Tech: Which Cooking Apps Are Worth Buying? |
