Thanks for all the lovely supportive comments :) We rent, and so the bars on the windows come with the place. I live in Brooklyn, so garden apartments always have bars.

I bought the cut-out lamp at ABC Carpet, but you can buy it online here:

I bought this towel rack on amazon for $130, and it's totally awesome. We bought it with a timer, so it turns on in the morning and we have warm towels for our morning shower, and then again at night. We even save money on laundry because in the winter the towels dry on it, and don't get that horrible mildew smell.

It's a makes you feel like you're having a luxury when it's actually affordable. I love it!

Sure, it's Beacon grey 2128-60 from Benjamin Moore Tranquility collection. The living room is calm and barren plain from the same collection.

When I pack for a trip, I like to lay everything out on my bed and make sure every item can be worn together. You can make 101 outfits out of 10 items as long as they all coordinate. My biggest learning is not to bring dress up outfits with me, like high heal. They are heavy and you generally don't wear them. Oh, and bring a couple scarves. They make an outfit look new.

My biggest indulgence recently has been traveling with a bodem travel french press. I traveled to Asia for 2 weeks for business with only a carry on, and managed to fit it in! I had great coffee every morning in my room. The best indulgence when you're away from home.

I read an interesting article about the same idea in the NYT and the writer recommended having the mini-fridge cleared out for your arrival, so you can stock it with food, drink, etc. I personally travel with a mini-french press and always buy ground coffee and milk so I can have good coffee in my room. It really makes me feel at home when I'm traveling overseas for work.

I got a good storage platform bed at Gothic Cabinets in Brooklyn for less than $800. The bed is solid wood and sturdy. I love the drawers under the bed and how modern it looks
