I usually anchor with a nice big mushroom cap or a hunk of green pepper. I find onion chunks can get a bit too floppy to really hold everything on there.

I love them! But, then, I was raised on fried, whole-belly clams, so my threshold for delicious-but-gross fried food is low.

Lids get nested within each other and hang out in our giant salad bowl. I don't know if it's the best idea, but it's what we have room for.

I just moved, so I did this about four months ago. The hardest part was getting my boyfriend to part with his subpar gadgets when we had duplicates (not that all mine were great, but I was OK throwing a rusty can opener in the trash).

It is SO NICE to have everything in one drawer and easily accessible. If I can't find something, I know it's because it's dirty or in the drying rack and I don't waste time searching for it.

I feel Price's pain. I love turnips every once in a while, but after a winter of them (and squash, and sweet potatoes, and rutabagas, and parsnips) I just get sick of them. I have one and I literally don't know what I'm going to do with it. I'm too excited about our tomatoes, strawberries and beets to even try to figure out what to cook.

I'm only now jumping on the bacon bandwagon, but when I was a vegetarian, I could have worn a t-shirt that said,

Vegetarian*

*Except for pulled-pork sandwiches from the neighborhood bbq joint.

I grew up eating whoopie pies and have been begging my mom for the family recipe for years. I think the renaissance started several years ago when Ben & Jerry's put "Makin' Whoopie Pie" on the market.

@chusmabilly -- I feel the same way about brains. It seems weird and zombie-ish to me. Same thing about the heart.

I'm all for eating more of the animal that's butchered, and that includes offal. My mom loves it, so I grew up with a house that prepared giblet gravy and chicken livers every once in a while. I'm not a huge fan of chicken liver, but I love tongue and sweetbreads.

@brianmac, a chef I used to hang out with advised me to ALWAYS use frozen shrimp. It's the only way to ensure you have truly fresh shrimp, unless you're buying them right off the boat or from a trusted fishmonger.

As for whether I'm cooking meat... I've been going meatless until dinner for about a year, but since I started cohabitating in December, I've been incorporating meat into more dinners and planning meals that use meat for flavor than as a main component.

There are always frozen peas in my freezer and usually some Gardenburgers, too. Other than that, our freezer stays pretty well stocked by what we freeze ourselves.

(Oh, and we always have ice cream. Always).

As a former vegetarian, I've been on both sides of the fence. When I was veg, there was no way I was cooking meat for anyone, and, now, I would never expect a veggie friend to make me meat.

I'm wondering if she did it for the photo shoot?

I used to work with someone whose computer desktop was a picture of herself. She is as self-absorbed as that would indicate.

I try to stick with tetrapacks. We're not big wine drinkers at our house, but we cook with it often, and I hate wasting a bottle of something good for a glass or two. Target sells good ones that come in little single-serve juice boxes. They're rougher than I prefer for drinking, but work well for cooking.

Which I actually had to do over the weekend. Thanks, blue laws, for making spontaneous braising such a chore!

I put the rice in a colander or strainer and pour boiling water over it. Seems to work well for me. Be sure to break up any chunks of rice stuck together, though, to avoid cold pockets.

I use regular paper towels and toilet paper instead of organic/recycled/what have you. I've found that if I go with the quality stuff, I go through it a lot faster--one regular roll to 4-5 recycled ones.

Oh, and Magic Erasers. But I've probably purchased three of them in my lifetime, so I'm not going to worry too much.

In his blog, Tom Collichio said they had five dishes that were successful, although at varying levels, and one dish that was flat-out inedible -- Jamie's dish. So I'll accept his word for it.

But I do agree that Carla should have taken the win.

@OneWallKitchen: I hate celery! But I'm pretty sure I could braise it successfully.

I've been in my current place for a week, but I haven't witnessed any stink fridge mishaps.

The frustrating thing is that, while there is a fridge, microwave, a toaster oven and a dishwasher, there is no break or lunchroom. And I HATE eating at my desk.

Which is OK, because I live close enough to go home for lunch.

I needed to hear this this week because I am STILL beating myself up after Tuesday night's failed attempt at pasta carbonara. We are lucky enough to live near a pretty good pizza place!

Which is another good reminder: Sometimes the consequences of failure are not so bad.
