Beware Grandpa Ott -- the morning glory, that is. Lovely and robust, but a prolific reseeder! My nigellas come back year after year. Strongest plants start out as seedlings in the fall, endure the winter, and have a good head start when they resume growing in the spring. Johnny jump-ups are also delightful reseeders.

Many whole grains originate from other countries, and our family is fortunate to have residents from these countries represented in our neighborhood (University City in Philadelphia). We have a great Middle Eastern market (Makkah Market) that sells farro, wheat berries, and other grains, and a local grocery store (Supreme) carries a lot of grains eaten in South America, including several types of quinoa!

Boiled yucca with good olive oil, lemon juice, and salt are a great alternative to baked potatoes (love it with grilled pork!). Nicaraguans make a refreshing salad -- vigoron -- with yucca, cabbage slaw, and crispy pork skin.

I love the informally covered wing chair! How did it handle every day use? How did you secure the fabric? Thanks for sharing!

Lovely after picture!! Did you make the slipcover for the chair yourself or is it a ready-made? If it's the latter, can you share the source? Thank you!

Pottery Barn makes great canvas slipcovers that are sturdy and well-made. We have one that we purchased years ago. They are pricey but discount website offer them for much less.

The cover we have is off-white. We love it, but it really does get dirty quickly. Within the first few weeks of purchasing the cover, we found that the slipcover does well in the wash, but the grime on the seats never completely washes out. To remedy this, we layer the cover with a textile to cover the seat and the back of the couch.

The key to keeping grout lines clear are EPOXY grout in a darker shade and regular, 6-month applications of sealant. Epoxy grout is way less absorbent than regular grout and resists stain, and the sealant does wonders for stain resistance too. I have had tile stone counters for a number of years, and despite the messiness of family life, our counters still look great!

Yay -- a house in Philly! Philly and environs abound in prominent architecture/design schools, arts schools, creative types, and not to mention, great architecture! Hope AT will continue to find more from the city of brotherly love!

We just stayed in a lovely B&B of this style in Leon, a colonial city in Nicaragua. The owners had restored an 18th century home. Another plus of this design is its focus on communal living. The design encourages people to spend time together on the covered patios.

"El Zaguan" is the name of a wonderful restaurant in Granada, another Nica city with great colonial buildings. It is, of course, housed in this type of Spanish building.

This has always been my fave Japanese pasta dish, but what really made me write is to say how impressed I am with the kitchn! Can't believe I'd ever see this dish presented to a broader English-speaking public! What a huge range of foods this blog presents! Keep up the great work!
