Talk about inspirational... AND beautiful to boot!
I hope you win for all that hard work.
Could you give the info about the bug pillow(s) please?
I am I the only one who think they are awesome?!
Cheers-

We used to do this back in the good ol' college days in Texas. I think it was even jacked up on cinder blocks with an open fire under it for winter... Until the 'engineers' rigged something up with propane. It never occurred to us, the potential harmful bacteria. I guess we drank enough alcohol to be safe. ;)

What a lovely place to spend some time outdoors!
I'm originally from Austin and really miss spending quality time outside with friends & family, especially during winter around a fire pit.
Ahhh memories!
Great job!

I second JCPenny's. I needed several window coverings for my new home and was impressed by their quality and customer service. Sign up for their email notification- you will receive free shipping codes and discount codes for percentages off of total order. Also, you can return items to the store without issues.

ValHalla- I highly recommend Angel Floors in MD 301-252-4037. They refinished the hardwood floors through out my DC house (1200 sqft) and installed Ikea laminate in my kitchen. Don't recommend the flooring... but call Roxanna and talk to her about what you need and what you want. They are wonderful and my old VA neighbor and I cannot speak well enough about them and their customer service. Plus, they have a great rating on Angies list!

Does anyone know where the building was that was posted earlier this week with the cool Halloween spider decorations? Would love to wonder by.

Also- check out Utrecht art supply on Eye ST NW. Not so crafty, but they have some cool supplies there as well.

I found mine at a smaller, local specialty hardware store.

My husband and I just bought our first house, boy was it a challenge. I think I looked at least 50-60 places (condos, townhouses, apartments, row houses, and single family homes) in a 18 month period. We had 'our list' but there wasn't ever a warm fuzzy shared by both of us at the same time, for the same property.
Fortunately patience and perseverance prevailed... One rainy day, I drug my husband to an open house. We both loved it... and for different reasons. As we walked away, my husband told me it would be my fault if we didn't get it... Talk about motivation! We closed within 48 hours. With the soft market, we were able to buy the house w/in our condo budget. The house met our needs and wants with the potential to grow. The main sacrifice we made is there is no off street parking. Fortunately there is enough space/yard to fix this problem. We just have to research and budget for what we want... along with the kitchen and bath renovations.
I truly believe, 'you will know it when you see it' philosophy. I has been a true money and time commitment. The house was built in 1922, sometimes we love the uniqueness and charm but then again it's age has its' downfall as well.
We have no regrets and it was worth the wait.

I agree with the other posters- collections can consume you but is kinda fun to collect items that are not common. I have collected old glove molds since high school. I purchased my first hand as an object for a still life to practice drawing.

Almost 20 years later- it amazing to see them pop up all over on AT house tours, cute NYC boutiques and rural junk stores. Because they can be expensive, especially the more unique and older ones, it keeps others from purchasing ‘gifts’- thankfully limiting the collection growth to a minimum. I do LOVE the comments (creeped out to the curious) from the impact of 15-20 hands standing at attention when guests come by for a visit. Definitely a conversation starter!

Oh- also collect art from friends, family and personal travel, MCM dinnerware, and McCoy planters. I don’t think of my home as cluttered- just comfortable and unique.

john m- you are right. California has invaded our beloved Texas town... Everytime I go back, I notice physical changes and attitude changes. It is still a great city, but not the way it used be. Ah, the good ol' days!
The funny thing is, I'm still trying to figure out how to move back from DC!

Books, and more books like everyone else... I tried to pass on the paperback and only hold on the signed and 1st editions.

But my one collection that no one else has mentioned is the vintage/antique glove molds. Just within the last few years you see them more frequently. I used to find them in junk stores or antique markets but recently, have had to rely on Ebay.
My first one I bought in high school for $20.00. They are now worth $50-100. Not too bad.
Plus, it is such a conversation starter for those who have no idea what they are.
