I've been making granola for several years and I do agree, ever since I started adding oil to it, the granola is much more moist and tastes so much better! I am experimenting with peanut oil and I love how it adds even more of a nutty taste to the mix. Sea salt, of course, (I use fleur de sel from France) and maple syrup for sweetener (we're lucky to have relatives in Vermont who send us maple syrup every spring).

I splurged on the clothing early this morning online but passed on the home stuff. It is too busy for my home style (but find no problem wearing these patterns ha ha), although I would have loved to find dish towels and a kitchen rug to brighten up my kitchen. Some melanine plates I looked at were really cute but I did not feel like buying a set of 8 and I moved on.

My parents who live in Provence have windows like that in their modern house. Theirs are triple pane and much heavier than the older wooden models. They also have screens which work like american screens. Screens are pretty new in France -we never had those while growing up- and may not be available for all window sizes but it's probably worth searching for them at the local big box hardware store.

We love Danish dressers but decided against them because they can't handle much storage. So we splurged for a Room and Board large Linear walnut 10 drawer dresser -60 in wide- which fits underwear, socks, seasonal sweaters and T shirts, AND gym clothes for 2 people. I second the other commenters: pretty but wasteful pieces have to go, especially in a bedroom.

Love it all! My dream come true! I so could live in that house. If I may ask the source for the white bookcase? Was it custom made or from a store? We've been looking for something like this forever. While not MCM, it would be perfect in our apartment.

Beautiful house. Love the light in there and the personal touches, minimalistic without excess. Great! One question: where is the mini bullet planter (on the left side of the Mac) from? Love it1

I think this apartment is more Arts and Crafts than Deco or Nouveau and it perfectly matches the period of the building. I would not pay attention to the negative comments - except for the recommendations regarding grouping pottery of the same color. Why are people so nasty on AT is beyond me. This is a great space and while it can take a lot of improvements, not everyone has the time and resources to do so -it is not specified if Chris rents or owns which would be helpful in suggesting what to do with what he has. I love the dining room, and the pottery and the plants. Great job! I look forward to seeing more Arts and Crafts period homes on AT, I came to MCM via Art Deco, Art Nouveau and Arts and Crafts and there is always a little space in my heart and in my home for these styles. Uni-style is boring IMHO.

This is a house with lots of personality and I can relate to the vintage vibe even though my own taste is more streamlined... I want to know where the bedspread is from too... Never seen such cool pattern.

Oops! I realize that the chandelier I was asking about is really the 3 globes above the kitchen island...

Lovely, I remember looking at this post a while ago and dreaming of a large kitchen. May I ask the provenance of the chandelier over the kitchen table? I went to the Artemide website but could not find it?
Thanks

I like the apartment for the space and light and all the plants, lucky Dan to have stuck with it all these years and now he can enjoy all this space (I'm a slightly jealous space deprived New Yorker... ) I do like the furniture too and the Mad Men feel...

Anyway, was wondering where the bookcase that holds the vinyl records comes from. My husband's LP collection is overflowing and we'll soon need more storage. This one looks to fit the LP size perfectly.

We have a the luxury of a linen closet but an idea I got from an apartment I visited last year as well as in an AT post from last Fall I think is to put an Ikea stainless steel shelf over the bathroom door to store spare towels.

I find this very interesting. This is a great concept. We live in Manhattan in a 1 bedroom apt with 1 bath and have been dreaming of an apartment with an additional half bath. Recently I saw an apartment where a toilet was in its own small room next to the kitchen but had no sink!!! Talk about disgusting and highly unhygienic. I should email this to the owners of that apartment, no wonder it is still on the market! I would definitely buy something like that if I had a small space.

A Murphy Bed is a great investment if you own your place. They are comfortable real beds and don't use valuable floor space in a studio. There are companies that specialize in that, you can find them on Google.

I would consider hanging it on the bathroom wall. I like plants and it's hard to find the space to fit pots in a bathroom. That reminds me of the "living wall" trend which started in 2008 for outdoor and indoor walls.

The solution is easy: don't use the dishwasher if you are only a household of 2 or 3. It is a major waste of energy, and you have to do half the job anyway rinsing out the dishes before putting them in. I cook a full meal every night for two and wash plates, saucepans, dutch oven, salad bowls after each meal. It takes 10 minutes. And the bonus: I use my dishwasher as additional storage space for my tupperware and plastic containers, pan lids, cutting boards and baking sheets. It's amazing what you can fit in a dishwasher!

Making your own lunch saves a lot of money and you control what you eat. I started doind it out of necessity for my husband who doesn't have any nice lunch places near his office in a drab office park in New Jersey. He is a contractor so the fact that he does not need to go out of the building to get food means he bills more time that way. Yeah!
He bought this japanese bento lunch jar that has 3 containers and is perfect for someone who commutes by train/bus. You can buy it on Amazon.com

Now I make my own lunch too because good lunch places where I work in NYC are scarce and I hate to spend $10 on a salad. And the money saved can go toward a nice dinner once a week.

I love this apartment! I too want to move in (I'm a fellow NYer)- or maybe is it for sale? A few questions: where are the kitchen cabinets from? In the bathroom, where are the tiles and the ceiling lamp from?
Also, curious to see the bathroom window. Did you make it into a cabinet somehow? It seems to have colored bottle in it lit from behind?

Light makes my life beautiful. We are lucky to live in a small but very bright apartment with lots of windows and when you wake up with the sun, eveything is possible.

I live in New York City and also try to run year round. I still belong to a gym so I will go whenever it is too wet to run or too icy in winter. I had a bad fall on ice in Central Park two years ago and it took me a while to recover from it so I will avoid running outside if it has been wet and the temperature fell below freezing.

As others have said, it's all about wearing the right amount of clothing. I used to overdress and now know how many layers to wear from just looking at the thermometer.

I disagree on the fleece jacket: investing in a good windproof fleece jacket like the Firefly from Marmot is a good idea when it's freezing and windy out and you don't need to wear much underneath. It gets pretty windy in NYC, especially running along the East and Hudson rivers, and I haven't found anything better.

Sugoi makes tights and half zip sweaters with a fabric called Midzero that it very comfortable to wear and warm. I have two of these Midzero sweaters and at 40 degrees that's all you need.

Ear muffs or a hat are a must I agree, and gloves. Although I have bad circulation I never have cold hands while running.

Enjoy your runs! I am sort of looking forward to these brisk winter runs myself.
