Exactly how would someone get the hidden, embedded message back off of the paper discs?

No photos of these things actually lit up? The vases in particular don't look all that impressive with the bright white background - I feel like we're missing the idea.

That bottom photo is hideous. I am firmly on the concrete counter bandwagon.

BTW I haven't had any issues with IEMs on planes from a pressure change = pain standpoint. Just that anything sitting in your ear canal for over a couple of hours is going to start to hurt. And there's ear wax to contend with.

Travel Companion: Passive vs Active Noise Cancelling Headphones

Going to Beats from the P5s would be a big step down in sound quality. The active technology out there has gotten pretty good, and the Bose active technology is widely considered to be the best at noise-canceling, whatever the take on the sound quality. Sennheiser makes a pretty good pair. But if you sample a pair of Bose and feel weird, your best bet would be to stick with passive.

In-ear monitors will give you the best isolation, but they are not going to be comfortable for 10+ hours on a plane. However, there should be plenty of over-ear options that isolate way better than the P5 and are plenty comfy.

Cool. But very, very weird.

Good point DCIRENE. Maybe it's me, but even as an adult there's something about a sharp cornered glass, or marble coffee table that makes me uneasy.

Wouldn't using dropbox to share music files be illegal, technically? Just saying.

@GERNUNDGIRL I was just thinking to myself how gorgeous the bedroom was and how it just needed one oversized piece of art on the far wall to be nearly perfect. Then I saw your comment and looked again. Ugh! Horrifying!

@ LMG I was thinking the exact same thing when I read that. Though I think foul weather games (when you're properly prepared) can be part of the fun and tend to be more memorable.

Still, as a die-hard NFL fan, going to a game is an occasional extravagance and a completely different experience. There is NO replacement for being in a stadium full of 60k+ screaming fans. On the other hand, the actual viewing of the game on TV is much better and much more comfortable provided you don't have to listen to Chris Collinsworth.

At least check it out first... looks like they thought of that. From the FAQ:

Can the recipient take a screenshot of the contents of a Burn Note?
By default Burn Notes are created with the "Read out" display option which prevents the recipient from taking a screenshot of the entire note. It does this by breaking the note contents into short phrases and displaying them one at a time. It would require many precisely-timed screenshots to capture a note that uses this display option. Furthermore, the result would be a collection of screenshots which are not proveably related instead of a single coherent image.

The "Keyhole" display option also prevents screenshots of the entire note by only allowing the recipient to view a small portion of the note in the "keyhole" area. The mouse button must be held down to keep the keyhole open which makes taking screenshots require more finger coordination. Similar to the "Read out" option, the result would be a collection of screenshots instead of a single image. Additionally the "Keyhole" option prevents people who are physically near the recipient from easily reading the note contents.

To allow the recipient to take a screenshot of the note contents use the "Plain text" display option.

I'm really quite surprised that the major car manufacturers haven't made some sort of elegant mobile interface like this standard in their vehicles. It's something they could have done years ago. Instead they give you a USB port and if you buy a luxury vehicle you get a 40g hard drive.

That very important fact, Tichrissie, gets left out because it's not true. People tend to think so because it's a saturated fat, and it USED to be thought that saturated fat clogs your arteries. But I can point you to any number of very recent meta-studies that review all the accumulated data and find no link whatsoever between sat fat and cardio-vascular disease. I'd venture to say most of us don't get enough of it because of health related fears. Sorry - bit of a pet peeve of mine.

If you're going to use it for frying, do NOT use the virgin kind unless you want whatever you're cooking to smell strongly of coconut. I did this with meatballs... never again.

I think what has turned out to be your necessity - absolutely loving everything you own - is a great way to approach a minimalist lifestyle generally. Sure it's a bit of work, but it requires you to learn yourself better - what you need and don't, what you value and don't, etc. And the result is generally a simpler, more effective/satisfying lifestyle with less clutter.

paper clips? tape? that's what drawers are for. having just decluttered my desk recently, i reasoned that i probably don't even use pens/notepads frequently enough for them to find a permanent home on the desk surface.

This is a tech blog. At least point us in the direction of an app or something - like Sleep Cycle, that tries to wake you up when you're at the lightest stage of sleep. Not a miracle worker, but might help some and does have the ability to disable snooze...
