Love this kitchen and pefect timing as my landlord in brooklyn has just agreed to pay for a complete renovation of the kitchen if I do the homework of costing it all / sourcing. Yeay for good landlords. Obviously looking at Ikea, white.... but curious if your open cupboard for the fridge/freezer and the cupboard above it came from ikea as I can;t source one but think my fridge/freezer maybe narrower than yours? Which appliances did you go for as many do look counter depth and narrower than standard. Exactly what I need! Lots of inspiration here - thank you!

Etsy is a great source for finding affordable art - the issue there is too much choice! I find picking a topic you happen to love helps. For example I got a great screen print for my parents for $16 that was 3 bikes leaning against an old barn in just the right colors and style for them. So liked, my brother and his wife went and bought the exact same one. And you'd never guess it was so reasonable. http://www.etsy.com/shop/Loftymornings

I had the great fortune to have my Mum and Dad visiting me this past week (I live in New York they live in England). My Dad kindly donated some of their sightseeing time to helping me round the apartment. Curtain pole up to hide the terrible kitchen from view, Askew lampshade in the spare room fixed, wobbly taps now solid, kitchen cupboard that didn't shut now clicks satisfyingly, Spare room layout completely swopped round (if anyone could tell me what was working and what wasn't it's going to be your guests!), hall table from Ikea built, new sturdy shelf in the wardrobe built, holes drilled in pots to stop the plants from swimming away this summer - I love Dad's and mine in particular! Does it still count for the cure if your Dad did the bulk of the work, it was my list...?!

I'm from England and have moved to Brooklyn, living in a brownstone apartment and I NEED someone to fill the US gap of window cleaners!! Discovered from my landlord that they hadn't been cleaned in 17 years and eventual found someone to do them (4 flights up and rotten wood means no chance of doing them myself) and found myself $350 lighter for it). Oh for window cleaners with their special high ladders and super fast, cheap, regular service, sigh!

#rouquinne: I also have a habit of building up a pile and agree it used to be a nightmare to get to the donation centre without a car, I build up too much stuff and then it weighs too much, takes too many bags, yadayayaya! My solution is to pile the bags, into my large suitcase. Much easier to drag to the charity shop with the wheels and who cares if you look a bit odd along a street where no tourist/traveller would ever venture when your apartment looks sparkly and free!!

Gorgeous. Everything has been given thought and consideration, down to the metal straws for the drinks! Love the clip on lamp in the bedroom - can't see a source for it listed above. Any chance it wasn't a quirky vintage find....?

As many have said - don't try and overdo it. Double decker bus is a good call if you want all the 'sights'. Alternative, and the favourite thing I do with visitors when they are in town, head down to Tate Modern, jump on the boat to Greenwich. Without you having to get tired walking, you get to float down the river past London Eye, Houses of Parliment, Shakespeare's Globe Theatre and end up in Greenwich, home of the cutty sark, the original maritime observatory, greenwich mean time, gorgeous little market, cute pubs, houses and classic London vibe. Gives you tourist sites and a feeling that you are seeing a slice of proper London, all wrapped up as an easy few hours!

I collect a Christmas Tree decoration from every place I visit. Unwrapping them once a year means I get the lovely fun of a trip down memory lane whilst also having a gorgeous eclectic Christmas Tree. Always try to get them to represent the country, for example I have a flying warthog from South Africa, blown glass pickle from Poland, person on a bike from Denmark and a half eaten apple from New York. I love Christmas and I love travelling, means no country goes unrepresented!

Love these - lucky enough to have just moved into my new rental pad in Brooklyn with it's own private deck, hope I can get it looking anything as good as these. Does anybody know where the bright pink outdoor storage unit in No.4 is from? I checked Ikea USA site but I can't find it there. Thanks!

Wow - where did the GSOH go? I'm British - proud owner of a nice set of white teeth but still get the humour - we are famous for the terrible teeth. True it's outdated but cliches came from a grain of truth! Far more interesting way to write than just stating yellowing stains - I totally got what the look that poor mac was sporting.

Personally I think you've done a really thoughtful, personal, successful revamp for your mum. Funnily enough in the UK it's Mothers Day this weekend and I reckon you just gained top spot as the best son :0)
