I have a great affinity for hotels, I feel so comfortable in them, and the ones with great design make me melt. Someone once told me that my apartment looked like a hotel and I took it as the greatest compliment - although they probably didn't mean it as one. :) Keep on posting fabulous hotels AT, I love them!

Hotel as Home: Cozy Style in Stockholm
A Look Inside the Scandic Grand Central

During the holidays my family came over for lunch. My mom and I were sitting on the couch together talking about how similar my husband is to my father when I said, "But mine cleans" and my mom replied, "But mine doesn't notice it's dirty". I was pointing out what I felt was a great trait in my husband (the fact that he cleans), and she was pointing out what she found as a great trait in her husband (the fact that he isn't picky). Each relatioship is different, and when you can celebrate what your mate brings to the table vs. what they don't bring I think everyone is happier.

Like house #4 we have an inset nook next to our fireplace. I didn't know why anyone would build-in an empty cubby - I would have NEVER thought to pile it up with wood, we put in shelves and use it as a bookshelf. The idea of spiders absolutely horrifies me... but I'm a city girl, what do I know?

Yes, yes, yes! I tend to lean towards the formal side of things, but it's so nice to be able to cook and my husband can sit at the bar and talk to me, or when we have friends over they congregate around it and munch on appetizers. I've had both bar and counter heights and I prefer the counter height - I recommend reviewing both heights before deciding.

Food processor and a nice car snow scraper - they weren't things I would have bought for myself, but I use them ALL the time!

You can roll them up and place them in a basket or bucket or large vase, etc. and display them. I did this with a bunch of maps I had and put it on the top of a bookcase.

I love glossy black front doors! If you painted the exterior gun metal, all the trim cream like the windows, and then the door black I think it would look fantastic! For the color combo look at the attached link. Have fun, it seems like such a fun project!

Try Arhaus, I'm not sure if it's cheaper, but they have some good options.

You can put a collection of mirrors on that wall, they are inexpensive and you can cover it easily (don't feel like they have to be in a row, have fun with it). Even if you dry wall over it, the wall seems pretty plain and could use some adornment. A collection of pictures or art would be nice as well.

7paul I totally think that there is a corrolation! I had my own business (a chocolate and candy store) and the visual and audio noise was enormous (as well as the stress!). I could only handle soft muted neutral colors when I got home, mostly white and beige. Now that I have a more "quiet" job I am starting to add a little more color to my home.

A registry wasn't for us - I'm 31 and he's 34 and I've been to enough weddings to see people register for flat screen tv's and target gift cards to make me feel icky about the situation. About 1/2 of our friends and family had to fly in to attend and I really felt that was their gift to us! However, I think it should be just about the two of you - every single wedding is different, every circumstance is different and you should do what will make you happy and comfortable.

I love hardwood floors, and so I faked it until I found a place with them. Here is a picture of the wood rug I used to get the look I wanted without the huge price tag, but there are a lot of different neutral options you can use, sisal rugs for example...

Turn off the fridge, take out all the drawers, shelves, etc. and run them through the dishwasher (or wash them by hand) and then wash down the entire fridge with soap and water. If the fridge is off and some type of mold is in your fridge you will be able to find it and clean it easier than if the fridge is on (meaning it will grow in a warm environment vs. cold environment). Check under your fridge as well, sometimes liquids pool under there and create a horrible smell.

Find out what colors you REALLY like - I thought I loved red and painted an entire room a beautiful red that I absolutely could not live with! I realized just because you love wearing a certain color it does not mean you like sitting and staring at it... now my house is neutral, neutral, neutral and I love it!

9 Things I Wish I'd Known About Decorating a First Home

I would recommend moving the console to the left so the right edge of the tv and right edge of the console almost line up. You will have enough room on the lefthand side of the console to put a large piece of art or sculpture, this will give you more to look at against that wall than just the tv. Then I would get heavier (bulkier) curtains and hang them higher up - this will make a huge difference and add a lot of sofness to the room. I would also add a couple of side chairs to fill out and balance the rest of the space.
