I don't DIY for very good reason- my skill base is more design and not handyman. I dont think that part of my brain even exists. I once attempted to change a door knob from a standard passage set to an entry set so that the door leading from the garage to the house was lockable. Needless to say I couldn't even do that right- even swapping the same brand/ series! Thought i was going to have to get a whole new door! Enter the dad who is so handy he could possibly change the oil on a jumbo jet if he had to!

yippee skippee...I can't wait!!! I am totally fascinated by this contest and the clever things people do with small spaces. I live in 242sq meters (790sq feet??) so we almost have the opposite dilemma of too much space (we have 3 spare bedrooms!) but I design shops where every square inch matters. Good luck everyone!

AWESOME kitchen- when we built our house 4 years ago we ditched the overhead cupboards in an effort to save money..glad we did! Especially love the floating shelves and tapware and stools. The colour palette is timeless! Great job!

How much to pick up the whole house and ship it to Australia?? ..it would fit in perfect with our Queensland architecture and lifestyle! Soooooo nice. I love everything about it!

We built our house 5 years ago and our new European dishwasher lasted just over 2 years. We haven't replaced it. There are only 3 of us and if we hand wash every night we keep on top of it. I find that as long as you rinse after you wash, leaving them overnight to dry and then putting them away is a great way to avoid handling them too much plus it avoids any conflict over who will wash and who will dry!

I remember walking into my friends newly painted house where they had warm grey carpet and new cool grey walls. Boy did that attack my senses! It made the carpet look dirty and the walls like the inside of a fridge! They didn't realise until they had pulled up the drop sheets what a monumental error they had made. Test every colour on a section of the wall even if its white! My advice is to always test within 1 meter of the floor and 1 meter of a window on an adjacent wall (3 feet ??)

Is it legal in the US to have a bedroom with no windows? In Australia and the UK 'habitable' rooms have to have windows- otherwise it becomes a utility room. Still i'm sure you will turn it into a great space (though the kitchen and bathroom are the stuff of nightmares!) Love the windows in the living area though.

boring beige to sublime lime (ok technically not lime) ..this is awesome!...works so nicely with the eclectic furniture mix - that dusty blue is perfect (and who said blue and green should not be seen!)

Very brave wall paper choice but it's balanced so nicely by the plainer colours/ textures and fabric in the room. I love that there are pops of green and orange with the flowers and indoor plants.. really works well with the earthy palette! Can't imagine there would be many mac and cheese dinners eaten in this room!

Great mix of furniture and storage pieces (and that motorbike is killer!) But what i love is all that negative space..would be very easy to fill it with more and more stuff so i'm happy you can restrain yourselves. (plus i guess if you had more stuff where would you swing?) The Ligne Roset blue couch and the grey Pug are a perfect colour combo!

Bath bombs... didn't we do this 15 years ago? Vanilla beans..really??..nothing says thankyou like shrivelled bean pods! I guess it all comes down the recipient but i cant go past a bunch of Australian native flowers..they look amazing and last forever in water!
