Before moving into my current home (apartment style condo), I painted it from stem to stern in Cloud White. I have a relatively colourful design sense and the Cloud White plays up with just enough warmth while not competing or accentuating any specific color... this color's a keeper!!! (if you go with Behr paint, the closest color is Swiss Coffee). Good luck and let me know if you want me to send photos of how it turned out!

If privacy is not an issue, then I would leave the windows just as they are! If you really wanted to punch them up, I'd paint the window sashes alone black... what a sharp, contrasting look that would be agains the tan walls!

Why not embrace the fixture as is and go for cool light bulbs??? You can get really neat Edison-style bulbs that throw a cool light, or perhaps decorative globe-shaped bulbs. Even clear, chandelier-style bulbs woudn't look bad!

Judging purely by the photos you have provided, I'm gonna go down the suggestion path as the previous commenter said and say a fairly light, smokey, silvery, blue-grey.

I'm gonna suggest you go with a modern, all-leather (legs included) dining chair in a color you really love... here's a link to what I'm thinking of in yellow, but know they're available in a miriad of colors:

How awesome is it to have a fellow Haligonian submit their place in the contest... I was just wondering how long it took between your submission and having your place posted? In any event, your pad is spectacular... congratulations!!! The fact that you've pulled it together so beautifully on a student budget is perhaps most impressive of all!!! Kudos :-)

Super space... and if the chevron-like accent wall is not wallpaper, would you be willing to share how you did it??? Definitely a favorite space.

Like so many of the other comments... I think you're place is a real stunner. As a guy who does his own decorating (and sometimes helps others when asked), its nice to see another masculine space. I've submitted my little place for consideration in the contest as well and hope it shows a fraction as well as yours does... REALLY WELL DONE!!!

Hi, Although I love the way a mat really elevates the look of any artwork, in this case I think you should go with the smaller frames, forgo the mats and centre your three prints above where you position the sofa. Finally... please ensure that you don't hang the artwork too high above the sofa... You want the artwork to sit low enough so that you can appreciate it being seated... typically a foot or so above the back of the sofa, no more. Hope this helps.

I think you are wise to stick with neutrals for the bones of the finished space... with respect to sofa color... keep in mind the new neutral these days, and likely for the decade to come is gray... grayge perhaps but more gray, less beige. Neutral-colored seating and case-goods with your splashes color in the drapes, rugs, art and accessories. Check out the living room in this place for sheer inspiration:

I recently moved into a new apartment and went all-white from a previous home full of color. My choice, given I knew I'd be using about 20 gallons of paint was to save some money but not compromise in style. Instead of using Benjamin Moore's Cloud White, I saved some $$$ and went with Behr's Swiss Cofffee.... its a perfect match in tone, goes on beautifully and painted my apartment with this from one end to the other. Its been 6 months and I still love its freshness and warmth. If you'd like to see photos of how it looks, check out my "new condo" photo set on my flickr site: http://www.flickr.com/photos/30138425@N07/

Gus Modern does have some sweet chair... Even the School or Church chairs would be excellent as long as you could find wood tones that either coordinate well with the table, or contrast it!!!

I love the idea of having more than one style chair... and one I'd suggest for sure is the Emeco (or Emeco-inspired) Navy chair... they're aluminum, light, durable and supper comfy. Some contrasting Wedgner "Wishbone" chairs would be awesome, as would chairs similar to the chairs again the dining room wall in the "Andrew and Andy" home tour!!! Keep the rug too... it adds a wonderful bohemian quality to whatever else you add to the room!!!

I think a light, neutral (cream + grey = greige)shag rug would look fantastic in your space... it would add super texture and a bit of a retro touch to tie your furniture with its beautiful surroundings.
