Be still my beating *heart*. Where is my mind today?

Be still my beating hard. I owned, or at least played with nearly every one of these toys as a child. Sigh.

I would never dare draw on furniture as a child. My parents taught me to take good care of our belongings because we didn't have a lot of money and what we did have we took pride in. It didn't inhibit my creativity. Artwork, gardening, cooking, sewing and other projects were always encouraged. There was an expectation to not destroy furniture and I knew I'd be in serious trouble if I did.

I love that your house is not huge. It really shows that you can pack a lot of style and functionality into a small space. Kudos to you on all the bold color choices. The painted pipes in the bathroom are brilliant!

Kind of cheesy. I liked it better when I didn't make the association with music notes.

I don't think anyone is trying to make fun of adopted children. It is a noble and loving way to start a family. That said, I'm sure people don't exactly want to be told they're adopted. It would be a confusing surprise full of mixed emotions! Is that funny? I don't know. Like with most jokes it just depends on the audience. I grew up as a red head in a family of brunettes. In my family it was a running joke that I was adopted. Of course, I never really took it seriously so to me it was funny. To someone more sensitive that would not be the case.

If you like "Safety Guaranteed" I would recommend "Jeff Who Lives at Home". It's very uplifting.

I also second the suggestion for Marwencol!

I've been thinking a lot about this question lately. Recently I've read several posts that were challenging and controversial. I was so tempted to join in the conversation but I didn't feel comfortable having a debate on a public forum where all my comments are documented and stored.

I have read a number of comments along the lines of "It's my facebook page, I can write whatever I want on it". Which is true, but people seem to be forgetting that while it may be their page everything they say is read by hundreds of people. When those people read something they disagree with or find offensive, it's only natural that they are going to respond negatively.

I try to be careful about what I post to facebook. I try to keep things light, positive, and of course post lots of cute cat pictures.

I was generously given a Bernette sewing machine (Bernina's more affordable line) as a Birthday gift. It is one of the best gifts I've ever received! It has just the right amount of options, and is easy to learn. I've sewn so many things with it: pillows, curtains, clothes, gifts. I'm amazed at how much use I've gotten out of it.

I think the amount you spend on a sewing machine should be relative to the amount you plan to use it. If sewing is just something you're trying out, a sewing machine in the $100 range should be adequate. Then if you find that you're really enjoying it, invest in a nicer machine. Better to make an initial smaller purchase than pay hundreds of dollars for something that you wind up not using.
