I actually kind of love this bathroom. I would kind of embrace the stark look and go sleek and modern. I agree with the new mirror. As for storage, I have zero storage in both of my bathrooms. If there is enough space between your door and the door jam, try an over the door shoe organizer. It lays flat against the door and then you don't have baskets and piles of bathroom stuff. I have a similar color roof and my siding is grey. I went with Navy trim and a bright yellow door. No landscaping yet of note yet, so it gives the house some interest. I think any combo of darkish trim and a bright pop somewhere would look great.

I think it depends on your budget. I'm with Mia that glass mosiac over it would look great and be quite the statement. That is what we had planned to do with our eyesore of a fireplace in our new home, but budget forced us to spend our cash elsewhere.

We ended up painting ours a deep tourquoise. It really looks beautiful. I checked with various people and our contractor, but nobody was concerned about the heat factor. I had the same fears as Jess13, but apparently paint on the outside isn't a factor. However, I live in Florida so my fireplace usage will be minimal. I think your fireplace looks way cooler than ours. I like the detail with the shelves. Those in an accent color would be great.
