I have a similar cubby, although mine is a wee bit bigger. I lined mine with a cool fabric, hung a mirror, and turned it into our bar area. Because it's so off center I think anything you do with it may look wrong in the end. I think if it were me, I'd remove the molding and fill it in with some drywall and mud over it.

I've been neck deep in apartment hunting lately, too.
http://www.nneren.com/ (This is an MLS listing site for New England that has rentals, look to see if you can find something similar in your area)

www.zillow.com (Now has rentals and a decent search)

www.trulia.com (Has rentals as well)

I have Craigslist RSS feeds set up for my rental searches... works pretty well.
Hope they help :)

I adore Tumbleweed Tiny Houses, but I'm not seeing any design inspiration used here at all. If you had done something fantabulous with the interior of the tiny house, I'd be impressed. I do give you kudos for living in such a tiny space, though.

Oh I do this! I also use them to organize mittens/hats/scarves in my coat closet. That way when i want my pink gloves and the matching hat, it's easy to find :)

Honestly, I adore all that AT does, but to call either of those rooms "Budget" rooms is simply insulting. How about realistic budget rooms?

I think this is a good idea. Now, I wouldn't try and sell one of these things, but I may try and come up with a unique, easy way to make your own and perhaps sell the straps or something. I would think that a cushion on top may solve the 'uncomfortable' problem. As to falling over, maybe this should be taken a step further. You know those little 'flower press' things? Two boards with screws to press the flowers? Maybe something along those lines. Two boards, mags between, and some ultra cool way to tighten the boards onto the magazines. Hmm.... *heads out to the workshop*

"Why provide the "Read more..." link, when there is not more to read? "- Jon B

"yeah, really? It's happening more often than not." - Olga

Most of these sites, (social networking, blog type) are automatically set up to create those links when someone inputs an entry on the site.

It's not as if they've specifically hard coded that link there, cackled maniacally and Muahaha'd while imagining a bunch of people clicking "read more" over and over.

So far I've liked the Method cleaning products. I have a few of them, and with the exception of the Furniture/Wood wipes, they all work pretty well, have great style/scents, and at least make me feel I'm doing something slightly good for the environment. I will caution people against the wood wipes. I bought them thinking that because I'm a bit nutty about cleaning, using this product would help cut time. Instead it left the worst oily residue on my furniture. It took me several cleanings to get rid of it.

Nice idea, but seriously... $150 for a fish bowl that doesn't even take into consideration that gold fish should have a wee bit of room and oxygen? meh. No way. I'll take the $150 and buy a Coach bag or something. The fish can swim around in a $9.99 Target vase.

As many of the posters said, close off the vent in the closet. I know it sounds like it won't work, but I had the very same issue in my bedroom, except a bit opposite. The vents in my bedroom blast me silly, but the one in my dressing room was wimpy. I was complaining about it to my boss (who has an engineering degree and has planned 'airflow..erm... stuff before) and he had me close two out of the three vents in the bedroom and POOF.. my dressing room got ice cold.

It may be a good interim step at least. The other thing I would suggest is not to do the 'curtain' thing unless thats really what you want. I'd probably go for a transient window at the top over the door, or the louvered doors.

good luck :)

Good Questions: How Can I Replace My Door with a Curtain?

My landlord is great, not only do I have a cheap (relative to the area I live in) apartment, but I get to do all the gardening I want, and painting within the apartment.

Because I like painting, I usually buy the paint and do what I want. I have in the past asked for reimbursement on a few things... The tin ceiling in my kitchen was painted before I moved in (7 years ago) but wasn't done correctly... so it was peeling and chipping something awful. I bought the correct paint and the tools to strip it correctly and asked him to reimburse me for that. He did so happily. I never ask him to reimburse for garden products since I like gardening, but I did ask him to buy me a few things to make it easier.

Anyway... if you have a decent relationship with the landlord email/write him and ask. It can't hurt. Tell him you'll do the labor if he'll buy the supplies, or if you don't feel you can do the labor, ask what he'd be willing to do. Unless the guy is an ogre, there's no way he's going to be mad at just you asking.

Good luck :)

(Me, at age 17, my mother trying to tell me to go with the flow)

Hon, it's ok that you made a stupid mistake. You're a teenager. Teenagers are made to be stupid. Don't get me wrong, I LIKE teenagers, but they're inherantly stupid to the core. Honest. When I was a teenager, I was stupid. How do you think you ended up being here?

*sigh* such a good pep talker, that woman.

What a great use of space. Really gorgeous. LOVE the windows. I do agree that the odd corner of rug behind the couch needs to go... but all in all, gorgeous.
