Just switched to Conde Nast Traveler (so I can ogle hotels I can't afford instead of couches I can't afford) and it couldn't have been easier. The operator even commiserated with me about the demise of Domino!

I will definitely be done, but I'm also a week off. My last big push in the bedroom will be done later today when I hang the last of my photos. Unfortunately, I didn't finish my office/workspace - I thought I could hang the shelves myself, but I got scared and I'm waiting for my super to be able to do it for me.

The decluttering and simplifying was the most educational part of it all for me. I will never be a minimalist, but it's so calming to have more air and less stuff around. I also learned to look at my space in new ways - taking my before photos was so educational!

My dad is in town this week, so while there won't be a party, there will be much cooking, eating, and drinking of wine. My tapas & knitting party is tentatively planned for the 26th - photos to follow, I'm sure :-)

I've been inspired by all of you, but I really love HollyInDC's place and the changes she's made to make it so bright and welcoming. And she loves Amy Sedaris!

Everyone has done such a great job!

Well, I can't really consider myself done, but I've done so much in the last 8 weeks. Kitchen, front closet, landing strip and bathroom are done and fabulous. The living room is on its way to completion, but I still need to incorporate my office/craft space properly and I need to put up shelves before I can do that.

The bedroom still needs a ton of work which I will try to get done this week. I still haven't found a dresser! I have lots of art & photos to frame and hang - I am in love with Command Picture Hanging Strips!

Even if I don't complete every little task set for myself this week, I consider this Cure to be a success for me. I've lived in this apartment for 5 years, and I've never really gotten past a half-assed attempt at organization and decorating. Taking pictures and really looking at my place has gotten me over the hump of feeling overwhelmed and not knowing what to do.

OK, gotta go deal with the bedroom now! Photos soon, hopefully.

I'm not going to be finished this week, but I feel really good about what I've done so far, and I have a really clear idea of what I need to do in order to have my apartment be what I want it to be. Much of what's left is arts & craftsy stuff - I need to make some pillows and a runner for my living room, I'm going to re-cover the stool in my bedroom, I have a TON of stuff that needs framing and hanging.

My biggest obstacles right now are finding and hanging shelves over my desk, and finding a dresser that I like. I've had the toughest time finding something that's not too modern, not too antique-y..... I'll know it when I see it, I guess!

I can't have my real party for a couple of weeks due to various factors, but I'm going to try to have a friend over for dinner on Sunday night.

I just posted some pics of the finished bathroom:

Why do I get all fan-girly when Maxwell says something nice about my space?

abb-brooklyn, your medicine cabinets are a thing of beauty! And your bedroom is so pretty - love the comforter and the curtains.

I made a couple of changes to the living room corner shown above - a larger balloon shade, which makes a big difference, and I have some more art stuff to hang. I'm having trouble because I prefer odd numbers of things but I have two of these prints:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/laurelann/2331874666

and nothing to balance them out - the two by themselves just looks too symmetrical to me. Does that make sense? I might frame some photos of my niece for that area to continue the "cute little girl" theme.

Bathroom is in good shape - I had painted and organized the cabinet before I started the Cure. I have some framed photos for the wall and the door, and yesterday I picked up a fantastic round mirror at Target for above the towel rack. Photos once everything is up!

I. Will. Not. Drop. Out!

I am, however, quite behind on things. Living room/office are sort of the same thing and the amount of decluttering that needed to happen was astounding. I'm still working on it. I did fix up the scary bookcase, reorganized some craft supplies, and made an Ikea run which scored a very cute little bistro table that fits perfectly in my little dining/conversation area. It's still too white, so I am going to make a sort of hobbleskirt table cloth for it - sheer fabric cinched in with some ribbon or contrast fabric so it doesn't just look like a tablecloth plopped on top. I added a FLOR are rug in that corner (might need to buy a couple more squares, actually) to bring in more color. I also picked up a larger balloon shade so it won't look so lost up there.

Well, I'm still a bit behind, but I'm progressing at my own pace, I guess. A lot of what I'm accomplishing isn't very visible, but the stuff like clearing the pantry and organizing the front closet has been super-satisfying. I haven't tackled too much of the living room yet, but much of what I want to do involves the office area (and the dreaded craft closet) so that will happen this week. I have a date next week to do an Ikea run with a friend who is going to come over after and help me hang pictures.

Video purge has already happened - and I alphabetized my DVDs. Book purge has begun....I think I can be pretty brutal here.

Gah. I'm falling behind, something I swore I wouldn't do. I'm still working on my kitchen - I'm really pleased with how I'm using my storage space better, but it seems like every time I move something I need to find space for five more things! Everything is clean clean clean, though - my stove top is sparkling!

Thankfully my entryway is adjacent to the kitchen so I'm slowly moving my work towards there. The closet is slightly terrifying at the moment but I think a thorough purge of my purse collection will help immensely.

Pictures soon, I hope!

I'm going to be playing catch-up next week due to my busy week and my trip out of town. I got a TON of work done in the kitchen, my pantry cabinets and freezer are totally organized and clean. I am purging cookbooks and bringing the castoffs in to work to see who wants to take them. I'm putting some unused kitchen gadgets outside - a bread machine, a food chopper.... I have really good space in my kitchen, it's just not utilized very well!

I already filter my water (Brita faucet filter) so that's one to tick off the list. I didn't have time to cook this week, but next week I plan to practice some of the dishes I want to serve at my party, which I'm hoping will be a tapas & wine bash where I can show off what I learned to cook when I was in Spain last summer!

Hey, cool, that's my bedroom!

Progress is a little slow at the moment - I've been busy and hope to finish the bulk of the kitchen stuff tomorrow. It's really satisfying scraping all that old gunk out of unseen corners!

I'm going away for the weekend so hopefully I won't fall too far behind.....

HollyinDC, I have a ceiling fan in my bedroom because there isn't proper wiring for an air conditioner. It makes a huge difference in the summer (and also helps in the winter when my heat goes haywire!) I got mine at Target for something like 30 bucks, and paid my super 60 to install it. I say go for it.

My biggest accomplishment of the week was to take all my "before" pictures: http://www.flickr.com/photos/laurelann/sets/72157604118508837/

Just looking at the pictures has given me all sorts of ideas - I'm seeing things in a way I never did before, and I've noticed a few things that I'd forgotten about in the 5 years I've lived here.

I moved some stuff to my storage space, and I took my old foot bath thingie to the curb. I also took my old but working toaster to the lobby of my building, hopefully it's gone to a good home!

I made my repair list (not too many) and started thinking about projects such as hanging shelves. I started cruising eBay and etsy for materials for a couple of projects.

I'll be mopping my floors as soon as I finish this post!

And - I bought beautiful white tulips which have brightened my living room all week. I'll pick up some more on my way home from work tonight.

Thanks Amy - for a rental, the details are pretty special. (most of my doorknobs are the old fashioned glass kind, which I adore!) The picture frame molding in the bedroom is actually kind of a pain when it comes to furniture placement, it looks weird if anything is off center.

Something I forgot to post before - doe anyone know how to keep my bed from rolling around?? The "brakes" don't seem to work and every time I lean against the wall to read in bed my bed rolls away from the wall and my pillows fall through!

OK, my photos are finally up :

http://www.flickr.com/photos/laurelann/sets/72157604118508837/

Just looking at the photos has me looking at my space in new ways. My major goals are cleaning and decluttering, and injecting a more defined style into my decor. I guess I'd define it as girly-beachy-bohemian-eclectic? yeah, tough to nail down. It really boils down to the fact that I just want to be surrounded by the things that make me smile.

My most specific goal is making my desk area into more of a craft workspace - I need to hide the cables and put up shelves for fabric and notions. I don't want to have to hunt through my closet every time I want to make something.

I'm a little behind progress-wise. I'm making lists and starting to purge, and I bought lovely white tulips!
