I just received a laminated cotton tablecloth from Etsy, and it's fantastic! It looks beautiful, hangs nicely on the table, and wipes off very easily. The dining room table used to be covered with a cotton stain-splattered, cat-haired, crayola-ed tablecloth, but now I can keep it looking fresh daily by just wiping it down. Highly recommended! No need to qualify this house tour! What a stunning place -- talk about good bones! I love the wood, the light, the openness -- it's really a treasure. Thank you for sharing!! My Parents' Beloved Lake House House Tour |

I love the first picture of your bedroom. It's so cheerful, crisp, and bright, as well as open to the outdoors. It must be a glorious place to wake up each morning. Gorgeous! Cassie's Round-the-World Australian Flat House Call |

PS -- One other thought that just occurred to me ... you could make the TV seem more purposeful by surrounding it with a wall of framed, matted black and white photos, set in black or dark brown frames. (Or at least some photos to the left or above?). I'm not exactly sure how this would work, but it might be a way to make the TV seem to stand out less ... Balance TV and Window in Living Room? I like virkv6's idea of using planted trees. A large one to the left of the TV that ends up being higher than the TV -- a ficus, rubber plant, etc. -- in an attractive pot would be ideal. You'd need to move the globe on the stand to do this, I imagine. Balance out that plant with another one on the other side of the windows, perhaps smaller, but a similar variety of plant and/or similar pot. Balance TV and Window in Living Room? Good Questions |

Great job! I've lived in far less remote areas where I couldn't do 10% of what you've managed to do. Congratulations on the logistics alone ... and, of course, on the beautiful space you've created. Sarah & Chad's Long Distance School of Style House Tour |

Taking a slightly different angle, I have a kitchen that is reasonably spacious but that has a major problem -- it's all island. The previous owners installed a huge island (more like a continent) in the middle of the room and there is very little room for other things like walking, a table and chairs, etc. For this reason, I am wary of the idea of packing kitchens with islands and warm up more to the idea of incorporating flow/free space and a generously sized table. What confuses me about AT and the 20/80 color rule is that so many of the house tours featured on AT enthusiastically showcase homes specifically because they are so free and bold with wall colors (and are beautiful homes as a result). So what makes an 80/20 many-hued home a success rather than an eyesore? Week 3: The 80/20 Rule The Color Cure |

This is a really beautiful home -- nice job! I love that it feels full and rich while being sparse and minimal. I also love how uncluttered it is. Inspirational!! The Shepherds' Sunny & Simple Remodel House Tour |

USE A TINTED PRIMER!!!!, no matter what red you choose. (Just trying to turn my own painful experience into someone else's gain.) Otherwise, you'll end up with pink walls until about the 4th coat. Which Red Paint Color Will Look Best With Wood Trim? Good Questions |

This may sound silly, but I suggest printing out the photo above in a large size -- 8x10 or so -- and then cutting out little doors from paint chips so that you can "try on" the various colors. You can even make little shutters and try them on too. So many of the suggestions above sound great but it's really hard for me to visualize them. Color Suggestions For Front Door & Shutters? I'd remove the screen door, which can really make a home look dated. I also would consider re/moving the left hydrangea because it blocks a view of the door. (It's really beautiful -- is there anywhere else it could go?). Then, add some hanging baskets with white flowers, some porch furniture (Adirondack chairs and a small table?) in a bright color (like light blue or mint green). I'd then landscape in front of the porch using some lower perennials, perhaps even bringing the landscaped section out a bit, perhaps in a little curve for some interest. You could border the landscaped area with large stones that resemble the ones on the porch wall. Definitely paint the trim/window frames on the 1st floor windows to match those above. Finally, paint the front door a vivid, light, eye-catching color. Consider some pretty house-numbers (illuminated?). Good luck! How To Spruce Up Exterior Of My House? Good Questions |
