Wow, I'm surprised that there are so many great guests and hosts on here! I for one will be keeping this post in mind as we stay with family next month. We always rent our own car and take our hosts out for dinner at least once- actually I think that we mutually enjoy taking turn paying for treats! It's easy however to get into the holiday mode and forget the tidying up all the time etc and I find it awkward giving a hand at tidying in another person's home especially when you know that the person likes things a certain way. There can be a lot of issues arise and I think a lot of it has to do with personalities.

If you invite someone over enjoy their company and allow them to enjoy yours! If they invite themselves.. and you aren't prepared for guests show them the nearest B&B.

How To Be the Guest That Gets

When my parents moved into the house in which they currently call home we found a letter in the attic written by the previous owners thanking the walls for protection.. it was a touching read and gave us an instant appreciation and love for our new abode. For a place to become a 'home' is a precious thing.

I love the rooms, the scale play. I don't think the girls room is plain, it has some beautiful subtle details, the Casper chair reminds me of Cinders glass slipper, for all we know it could be exactly the way the child at her age wants it- I'd have loved that room. Neither are big rooms. Have you ever tried photographing a small space? My guess is that they moved the bed from in front of the flag where there would be a good room balance and access to cupboards and room exit, to get a good photo. My work is done here Mrs Marple.

Wow, I expected nice replies on this of how people compromise and celebrate together, not judgement.

My Dane hubby and I are both Christian but he prefers the classic simple Scandinavian style. However he is very supportive of my tendency to experiment with style and color. We both respect each others tastes and desires. Traditionally I am the one doing the decor but I always ask if he has any suggestions or ideas first and I take that in hand then I go have fun!

I found this a problem to begin with too, especially when they are newborn.. at first I waited until N's nap time, then when she could hold her head up adequately I put her in the shower with me sitting in the bumbo so she just got a little spray from the shower, then as she got bigger I filled her baby bath up and put her in it while I showered. But to be fair now my shower habits have changed it seems, I will take one at night or when her dad is home. So much easier!

I think Ikea is brilliant. It does loads of charity work! hah It provides us with low cost furniture for our every need and we can refill that cup as much as we desire! What student/ new home owner would be without it?

Red + green (and pink + green) are some of my favorite colors together. The Rhyme comes to my mind however that 'Red and green should never be seen, unless on an Irish Gypsy Queen..' I think the room pic on the right could very nicely be for a gypsy queen.

Oh my wordy, I thought Ali asked for decor advice not Moral guidance, If the previous owner gave a flying hoot they would quite likely have taken better care of the item.

This quilt got my attention for its Scandinavian appeal and I would say embrace your minimalism! I love it with that Iron bed and the no fuss bedlinen.. Simple and fresh. If anything I would get some cute fairly lights in that room and maybe a tiny touch of cool and gender neutral blue to compliment your find.
