Using a beautiful printed wallpaper on the wall by the bed, or the large wall across from the bed would be great! See: http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/chicago/house-tours/house-tour-summer-and-joshs-pumped-up-traditional-chicago-065851

Good luck--looks amazing so far, I agree also with posts that suggest adding lighting and storage for guests.

I DEFINITELY agree with change to a slate blue/grey color. Use the print/artwork that is on the wall as the source for color--go with the blue/gray color that is already in the background of that piece, voila! Perhaps even a shade darker than the bluish/grey that is in the artwork-print.

Goodluck--can't wait to see the results!

My husband and I are finishing a remodel similar to what you describe. I HIGHLY recommend our contractor--Roy Donoso. He and his wife are both trained in architecture, now he does the general contracting and she does the designing. They can come up with the schematics for you.

Furthermore, we have never had a problem reaching him by telephone, email or at the job site when we needed something. He and his team of workers are efficient, friendly, trustworthy, and outstanding.

Another idea is that KOHLER (in the merchandise mart) can also help you design and coordinate a remodel for your bathroom. They have a list of their preferred contractors, and for a MINIMAL fee, ($250.00 to be exact) they will come up with an entire layout for you. The only downside is it will all be in KOHLER products. But that's not such a bad thing, they have a beautiful range of choices. I would recommend talking with Sal Cianolo, who is just great.

Hope this helps!

DITTO what SSR wrote: You can buy "side panels" from IKEA to match any of their cabinets. They make colors in every type of finish that their kitchen cabinets come in.
There is a white lacquered panel (the biggest panel is 4' x 8') that you then cut down to size to "wrap" around the cabinet.

Ask in the kitchen department of your local IKEA, the folks there will order it for you, and can help you figure out which panel sizes you need to order to get the job done.

Hope this helps.

the copenhagen office cabinet or office armoire from room and board might fulfill both purposes.

is the wall between the "entryway" (living room) and the dining room a structural wall, or can the wall be removed to open up your floorplan?

That will solve much of your design dilemma--I do agree with two seating areas b/c of the fireplace location.

DEFINITELY PAINT the woodwork and crown molding, the dark wood is shrinking the room.

Try to remove the wall betw the living and dining spaces.
