Unfortunately I currently live in a city which greatly lacks in the area of public transportation, which has led my partner and I to purchase our first vehicle. I love having a car for the convenience for things like groceries, as well as visiting our family (6.5 hours away for both of us). I'd rather rely on transit though for the most part, as one, it feels more cost-effective, environmentally friendly, and I get to read/listen to my music in complete solitude. Very pleasant. Hopefully we one day move back to a more transit-friendly city. I'd ideally love to be a 1-car family for a LONG time!

Driving VS Public Transit: What's Your Preference?

I'm a RD for a small college.

1. Talk to your hall advisor about the situation. I train my staff in dealing with these types of conflicts all the time.

2. Have a sit-down conversation with your suitemates, at a neutral place (like a coffee shop, not the kitchen). Ask them how they believe the situation is going and using I statements, explain how you're feeling. You may be unaware of some issues they may be having with yourself, for instance.

3. If it's really looking poor and the above solutions haven't worked, apply for a room transfer - when doing so, specify that you are looking for a "clean room" situation and define what clean means to you. (i.e. dishes must be done everyday vs. once a week)

This may be a dumb question, but how are the windows in your apartment situated? From the picture, it looks like there are some blinds in the living room. When your windows are open, do you get much natural light?

I use mine for everything!!! I make stir-fries, pancakes, cook chicken, pasta dishes, etc. It's handy, because you do not have to turn on the oven, it's fairly easy to clean, and like many mentioned, it cooks evenly.

I've had mine for six years and sadly, I think this one needs to be retired, as it's no longer cooking evenly and has lost some of it's non-stick quality. But I will definitely be investing in a new one when I get the opportunity.

I'd personally just keep a solid navy. You can then accessorize with fun throw pillows if you want. Gorgeous cover, by the way, I love it!

It's funny, you said no cast iron skillet - we actually have an electric frying pan which I think is the biggest life-saver of all time. I use it probably 4-5 nights a week. If not that then, a good set of knives and knife sharpener, plus great cutting boards.

I did not know this, but now I am happy I learned! Awesome! And I have a head of lettuce at home right now, so this is great.

I would say chili powder or garlic. I'm pretty new to the spice game.

What about cupcakes? Do these freeze well? I'm not a huge cake-y person, but I love cupcakes. Also, what about cheesecake?

I'm actually not sure what I am, but I lean towards feather. I always sleep with ear plugs in because I can't get to sleep when I hear other noises (cars outside, my partner snoring, etc.) I've also asked my partner in the past to roll over or away from me because he's breathing too hard/too loudly in my ear, haha. But once I get to sleep, I usually sleep throughout the night - though come to think of it, if I receive an e-mail while sleeping, I usually stir awake.

So in sum: probably a feather. Partner's a log.

I also agree that I find this article very timely, but it makes sense when you consider the seasons. The majority of moves take place in spring/summer, as that usually works out best for families. I've also always worked within the higher education field and find that this time and August is when our students begin to consider moving around the most.

My partner and I are currently looking for a new place, because like Pi mentioned, the rent is too dang high. We're down-sizing to a smaller apartment for the year. Similarly, like someone else mentioned, we move because of big changes (mostly job related).

In regards to the process of moving, I definitely do not dig the cost associated - renting a truck, gas, etc. The also physically daunting aspect of moving, like when you walk into your home and are like 'Where do I even begin?' is not something I'm looking forward to. But I do look forward to purging stuff we've outgrown and also to setting up a new space!

Thank you for writing this! This is a hot button topic for my partner and I, as we talk about our future together. I personally am very anti-television unless I am strictly monitoring, I feel that the amount of advertising and the general programming available these days is quite lacking. Great thoughts from the commenters - I will definitely keep these words in mind.
