I also find the wallpaper too much (would love a piece of it framed in there, instead of all over the ceiling and walls), but otherwise I utterly ADORE it. The green is perfect, the windows, the mix and match of retro furniture...I would love a little nook like this.

The article doesn't mention that Edrington happens to be an architect. Not your average Pops pottering in the backyard and slapping together a playhouse for the kids...

Brilliant, I would live in it! And I would have LOVED it if my grandparents had something like this - just amazing!

I don't think it would be a copyright infringement. It is a frequent practice for artists to reinvent like this, I think the term is "appropriation." Fun idea, I used to LOVE The Cosby Show.

Oh, another idea...you could put a "false wall" in there, but you will have to re-set the light switch into that. That is, leave the existing wall as is, and build the false wall over it, with it firmly secured and your light switch set into the false wall.

If you sell, you could remove it and have a few screw holes to fill, some paintwork to fix and the light switch wired back to what it was. I'm guessing that could still get expensive if you don't have the skills to DIY, especially messing with the electrical part.

How To Baby Proof This Stairwell? Good Questions

From my own experience with kids (being one, having crazy siblings, and now 2 of my own), just about any structure you put there may entice climbing (depending on the child, of course). Kids are all different. With my daughter "Don't touch" sufficed, but my son - he would be tightrope walking on that thing as soon as our backs are turned, and you just don't need that stress.

So I think you may need to assess the risk-taking behavior level of your child first off.

Then you need to consider the aesthetics and costs.

It looks like removing it entirely could be very costly. So if that is not an option, and you consider your child high-risk for the climbing on it part, I would do something to make it totally inaccessible, and I think more than just a triangle to block it (because they might still be tempted to go around that) - I think it would need to be a slope all the way along that side wall right (I would paint it all white, to make it as invisible as possible), or raising it all the way along (but I think the slope is the safer option of the two).

Try and bath with epsom salts before bed too - that will help you relax. No computer or TV in the evening, and no reading in bed. Boot out Cat or get really good earplugs (sorry, Puss!)

Gen X container gardener here, for many of the reasons mentioned. I rent, and our building has some rule about only 2 pots on the balcony. However, I recently went through my lease to see if it is actually written anywhere and found that it isn't, so I am flouting their "rule" and have one monstrous pot and about 6 other smaller ones. It is gorgeous and neat and not endangering anyone, so they can shove their silly "rule" :o)

We are hopefully buying our own place in the next 6 months, and my husband knows I love gardening enough to insist on a house and yard rather than a townhouse or apartment. I have several friends who would love to garden but are similarly restricted by fascist apartment managers.

Personally, depending on who it is, we give up our bedroom and treat that as the guest room and camp out in our living room. That way we know they are on nice sheets, a comfy bed, have privacy and have a place to stash their luggage. For a short visit, we get to enjoy feeling like it is a slumber party in the living room, but I probably wouldn't recommend it for a longer visit.

This is definitely my preferred way to add color, whether in a rental or my own home. Nice white walls and then liven it up with a few colorful accessories - it is a very Scandinavian look.

These are some good tips!
I think the example of the art in front of bookshelves is not very practical for most people. Still, it does make you think...it is nice to not be boring and predictable in the way art is positioned.

I would have liked to see a point about lighting, because that can make a huge difference in a room and needn't cost anything if you have a free-standing light already.

Also, a plant or flowers is brought in from outside can really freshen up a room and doesn't have to cost anything (again, if you have them already)

That wreath is gorgeous. Might even do a Christmas version of that, since we are in a tropical zone and I'm a little tired of the old poinsettia.
