The Kitchn has a wonderful skillet toffee recipe. It has that caramelly flavor, you get to break it into bits (which is wonderfully cathartic), and you would only have to wrap each favor (or box it) instead of each piece.

I found this recipe made about 8 medium sized homemade Christmas gifts; my guess is a single batch would make about 16 small favors.

When I used to babysit, I loved the $20 and takeout menus, especially if the kids got to order what they wanted, too. They were excited, and I knew they would eat it because they picked it under the supervision of the parents. And as a poor high school kid, then a poor college kid, takeout was a luxury.

But I would not have turned up my nose at a hot calzone, either.

In the past, we've made a roasted duck with orange sauce for our small family. Goes great with all the traditional sides. This year we are with extended family, so turkturk it is.

I love the bacon-wrapped tenderloin idea, though. Sounds lovely and decadent.

This cake is fantastic. Just made it tonight, with minor modifications (low fat vanilla yogurt, egg whites, a little less oil, a little more apple).

My kid will eat almost anything with hummus on it, so I use hummus with veggies to class up a ho-hum meal. Whole wheat pita with turkey and tomatoes? No way. Whole wheat pita with turkey and tomatoes and hummus? Best thing ever!

Yeah, these aren't great. Perhaps with more cinnamon and a little bit of brown sugar, these might be good.

We just moved away from Livermore, CA, and how I miss the wine! It's no Napa, but many Livermore wines are excellent, and the tasting rooms are all very friendly.
