My kitchen has the original avocado green laminate countertops from the 70's and they are still in perfect condition. If it weren't for the poor lay out of the counters they would probably stay because they are very cool. But the layout and work space is awkward, so we are looking at remodeling the kitchen. Any suggestions on good laminates or are they all pretty much the same? Kitchen Countertop Preference: Get Better with Age or Stay Looking Brand New? |

I have a chair very similar to these. It is the most comfortable chair I've ever sat in. I too have been trying to figure out the orientation. Thanks for all the info. Name or Maker of Vintage Leather Chairs? Good Questions |

I could totally see college kids use this to study out on the lawn of a campus or just sit and visit. I don't think it's pointless at all. "Cube" by Tamara Svonja for SIMPO I Saloni 2012 |

We recently bought a house. Prior to this we had no idea how to go about finding a good realitor. We found the house we wanted but not a realitor. The house was out of our price range but we really wanted it. We asked friends and family about who they would recommend as an aggressive smart realator that could get us into this house we wanted. Through friends we found the perfect person to help us. Not only did she get the owners to drop the price $40,000 but they also paid our closing costs. She also helped us out when our lender was being flaky and wasn't doing his job. She hooked us up to another lender and the paper work flew through and we closed a lot sooner than expected. Very cool. We have some old rotten trees that need to come down on our property. When the time comes to cut them, I will be looking for garden art in them. Thanks! Free Garden Art from the Power Company |

I agree with @DEARMISHA. I think having to continually maintain it would be less green then one that lasts for a few hundred years. There are beautiful buildings and cottages in Ireland made of stone that have been around several hundred years. Now that's Green. Dominic Stevens' Biodegradable House |

I see a lot of beautiful homes/house tours, on AT and many of them are not just singles or couples living in them but families. Having children myself and knowing how hard it is to keep the house looking half way decent, I often wonder how these families do it. Obviously these beautiful photos are staged and the homes don't always look like they do in the photos but it makes me realize that kids have to be included in not only the design, function, & comfort, but also the tidiness of their home. Giving kids real responsibilities and making them a part of a functioning, loving home, not only makes them take pride and ownership but gives them real life skills and a sense of belonging. But I think the bigger picture is to teach them to appreciate and take care of what they have because it can be gone in a flash. ha ha ha I have a collection of those sparkly christmas balls in the picture. What does that tell me? I have always been BIG on color. Like, bright green or pink bedroom walls. However we are moving soon and I think I will be going more neurtal on my walls and furniture. I think ellabee is "right on" by saying that the beauiful things that you really want to show off don't have a chance. Like my wonderful little sparkle balls. :) Are You a Big Color or a Little Color Person? Reader Survey |
