My husband put up some lighted wreaths outside earlier this week - that's been it so far. We usually don't do indoor stuff until maybe the first weekend in December. I kind of like the St. Nicholas Day/Epiphany time table to put up decorations/take them down. Have to admit I am not really in the Christmas spirit this year- lots of family drama- maybe going to a "Blue Christmas" service is the way to go this year.

Fresh linens actually makes more sense! Although scattering random bowls of citrus around might impress or confuse guests into overlooking dust bunnies. Housekeeping is not my forte, obviously.

I know this was a typo - fresh limes I assume was the intention - and I am totally into clean & sober these days. But back in the day - putting fresh lines out might have gotten amped up guests to do the cleaning for me.

Beautiful. Amazing how much color variety is included here without looking busy. Moody, dark, brooding... love it!

Wow! What a fabulous makeover. Love the red legs and piping with the black & white upholstery - very sleek.

Autumn - leaves & gourds. Also as the weather gets cool I bring out throws for the sofas, spicy scented candles.

Christmas - tree, wreaths, centerpiece, candles.

Doesn't strike me as cluttered. There is a lot going on but it doesn't seem chaotic - seems well-thought out. Love all the artwork, the use of color, and the overall feel. "Sophisticated Bohemian" indeed.

We've done some nice repaint jobs on old wood furniture that was not in good shape, but agree with those who've suggested not painting. This seems like it is in very good condition as is. If it doesn't work in your bedroom, would it possibly work in some other area of your place - maybe living room or dining room as storage?

It was the early 70s and we rented a wonderful, cheap place in a nice older neighborhood, close to lots of shops & restaurants. Little did we know that the landlady, who lived next door, had a mother with dementia who had a key to our place & would wander in at all hours. When the mom went on the lam (which happened several times a week) the landlady's very loud alcoholic husband would yell, "Red alert! Red alert! She's gone over the wall!" There was also an on-the-make unemployed nephew in the mix who used to come over uninvited. In addition, the former (evicted) tenants used to knock on the door in the middle of the night (when we were sleeping) to see if we wanted to buy any downers. We moved our after two months - luckily we were month-to-month and didn't have to worry about a lease. Our next place was a house about 100 yards from a railroad track but it was much more peaceful!

Love the tile, the uncluttered feel, the windows, the light - well, everything.

Wow - what an amazing find. When we've pulled up something in our house, it was usually to discover something that the builder did wrong- never anything so wonderful. Know this was a lot of work - but well worth it!

We don't get house guests too often- usually relatives- but I love it. We have a guest room with its own bathroom so we're not all on top of each other - and we tend to eat out half the time & cook at home half the time. Nothing too elaborate- grilled burgers, chicken, salads. The cleaning beforehand is stressful only because we don't keep up with it day to day as we should- maybe someday we'll learn.

Very nice. The distressing seems very minimal. I love the color and the hardware - great to see a throwaway turned into an attractive, useful piece.

We have two dogs & they wake up no later than 6 AM including weekends - on weekends I let them outside & feed them & then we all go back to bed. However, Tues-Fri I set the alarm on my cell phone at 5:30 & put that in the bathroom so I have to get up. Of course, the dogs are always my backup in case I sleep through the alarm. I am NOT a morning person but I luckily I work a 4 day week- the 10 hour days are demanding but it's worth it to me to have an extra day to sleep in.

My mom was a nightowl too and I think I passed the gene along to my son. He was never the kind of kid who bounced out of bed at 5 AM ready for cartoons & cereal. We even had to wake him up on Christmas morning. He uses the cell phone method as well but with his cat as backup.

Love the colors, the furniture, the accessories & the overall charm. Great place!
I am really impressed by the AT House Tours lately that feature small places like this. We are empty-nesters looking to downsize, & seeing places that pack lots of personality into not a lot of square feet is really inspiring.

I'm with b77 about cork flooring. It's very forgiving, and also very comfortable to walk on. It also is a bit more sound-absorbent than hardwood. We have it in our basement and like it a lot.
