I had this problem with my shower, paid $350 for a plumber to snake it out (hair). He suggested we do away with the attached stopper which made it nearly impossible to clean out any clogs. He did the work of disconnecting it and taking it out, put a plain cover over the hole that housed the open/close knob, installed a drain hole with threading to screw in the drain stopper for baths, stainless insert with small holes to catch hair for showers. Love it! And the reduction of clogs is AMAZING! If we do get a slow drain all we have to do is use the plastic barbed tool (snake) from the store (it's small - only about 15 inches long and cheap - about $3), stick it in the drain (no obstruction from the stopper) give it a twist, pull it out and voila! out comes the glob of hair. adora - Definately a chore, but I use vinegar and baking soda on my oven. Lots of scrubbing, but if you keep after it the oven is spotless and no chemical smell of Easy-Off...plus it's a great arm workout - ha! DIY or Buy: Natural & Eco-Friendly Cleaners |

I'm with BERKLEY.LOVES.GREY, Immediately screamed Restoration Hardware on the first photo...and then all subsequent photos. If the designer says, "I still feel like no single source can or should be used for a home." ...why did he move the Restoration Hardware showroom into the condo? Great advertisement for RH though. Maybe he's getting a commission from them as well. Long Island City: Modern Living at the View Showhouse Tour |

My best friend is freaky about letting anyone load her dishwasher...but she lets us unload and I must say that more than once I have unloaded still dirty dishes...so gross. I'd rather hand wash or do a super job pre-rinsing instead of putting them in with food still clinging. Seems like a waste to use the dishwasher and still end up with dirty dishes. Kittywrangler is correct: Years ago, I landed a position in a new doctor's building, the office was newly decorated by a designer and it was gorgeous colorful contemporary. To my delight, their original location was decorated by the same designer with MCM pieces and they wanted to dispose of it all free to a good home. New to the position I didn't want to be greedy, but I did get two fabulous chairs that I still own. More recently, a school was remodeling some classrooms and I purchsed a couple of great old bookcases for $20/ea. Keep an eye out for remodeling jobs in your area. It's not impolite to walk inside and inquire about the furnishings. They will usually be happy to get some cash for it. Counting Pennies? Tips & Tricks for Creating a Gorgeous Home Anyway |
