I love your pad! I especially love your color palette. Leather, dark blues and whites! Yum.

Question: WHERE did you find that wonderful magnetic knife holder in the kitchen? I love the roughly rounded edges! it looks like pewter or something...

i've been into gray lately, especially dark gray. look at benjamin moore's historical colors line. i recently painted my bathroom a semi gloss 'coventry gray' on top and a flat white on bottom- bisected at the 'chair rail' line. That way, the toilet didn't stand out. I LOVE how gray looks with wood. i think it's sophisticated and the wood warms up the gray beautifully.

i, too, like lots of white with pops of color. if you can paint the cabinets, how about white or a muted aqua, which would be a nice accent to compliment that counter color.

Add a white textured terry shower curtain.

how about tile stickers, especially for that brown vertical strip? there are some attractive retro ones here: http://www.2jane.com/tile-stickers-tattoos.aspx

and as long as you've got that 'crystal' knob on your sink, match it with crystal cabinet knobs.

as for over the toilet, how about something 3-D. like this: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=27516782

or a wall graphic: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=25082045

good luck! this is a fun challenge!

Hi JLEbean,

I used Krylon spray paint. Easy to find, most hardware stores should have it. I like a glossy look, so I used high gloss finish. I've painted my trunk a few times, to go with different decorating schemes. Such a cheap way to transform the room...

I have this same style trunk and have spray painted mine a couple of shades of grey. I liked the consistency of the paint- very smooth and streak free.

After painting the body of the trunk, I highlighted the brass fittings with some "antique gold" paint I found at a craft store. It gave it a richer, older look.

The only drag was masking the trim.- but not a major drag. Good luck! It's a fun project!

I love JodieAnn's idea-- the mirror is a great background to focus one's eye on your artwork. I would suggest lots of varied- sized framed pieces, hung salon-style. like so... http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/ny/at-email/how-to-hang-art-in-groups-like-kate-spade-050872

And to hang from the ceiling, use a picture rail like this: http://www.picturehanging.com/

seriously, people, get over this ridiculous fear of non-sterile environments. We have immune systems for a reason, and one reason why so many children get so sick these days is because they are scrupulously protected from any and all germs and dirt, develop no antibodies, and then are knocked over sideways when foreign matter inevitably is introduced into their system.

I disagree with Kalakala... I have had wood floors in our bathroom with tub for 15 years and the floors are still dandy. I agree with Ebrown-- remember that boats were originally made of wood, properly finish your floor, and you'll be fine.

I'm hyperventilating. The sense of proportion, the choice of patterns that all harmonize, the effortless casual elegance that is clearly a real person's home embodies all that I love about France and the French. I am thrilled to see a beautifully decorated home that doesn't look "designed." THAT, to me, is the epitome of home decor. Thank you!
