My grandma owns waterfront property along lake Michigan that I've camped on. Some of the best memories of my life. Waves sound about the same no matter what coast you're on!

Instead of aluminum flashing, you could also use very thin brass sheets. You can get them at the hardware store pretty cheaply. And you could probably also recover some sort of ugly 70's wooden lamp and use little brass nails instead. Might be a little sturdier.

The blue one looks too much like a trash can. i see that going badly in so many ways.

I have one little raised bed (lucky!) that gets half shade and half sun. The Swiss chard, basil, and tomatoes went nuts, so they'll be going back in this year. There's a type of little yellow plum tomatoes that has always done well for me, with very little effort. The peppers and cilantro...not so much. Oh well! More room for something else!

That couch walks a fine line between awesome and old lady. The skirt has GOT to go. It the rest of your decor is fresh and modern, go for it. If you have a lot of doilies...maybe not.

OOH OOH OOH!
I literally just sold the exact same table on Craigslist about a month ago. I'd rescued mine from the thrift store and painted the dinged up base black while leaving the top natural. It's a lovely piece and I was sad to see it go, but I had just bought some Bertoias and needed a pedestal table.

So. Advice.

Don't go with Bertoias. And don't go with Pantons. I doubt they'd fit nicely under the table. I'd say a nice metal bucket chair would probably be good, or Parsons chairs that clean easily. World Market has some with removable slipcovers. Bottom line - go with something that contrasts with the wood. The base of the table looks a little busy with the support rail on the bottom, so you need something that will be distinct from it. Also keep in mind you're probably only going to be able to put two chairs next to each other because the legs will bang up against those funny rails. Hope that helps!

You guys are going to hate me...I just scored 6 of Bertoia's side chairs at a rummage sale for 7.50 each. Original pads. That's why rummage sale-ing (sailing?) in Wisconsin is awesome.

THESE THINGS BROKE MY SOUL.
I tried making them tonight...they looked so good and flaky. The filling was good! But the rest of the process made me want to die a little.

I like the after quite a bit. The tile was a bit odd...I could see it working nicely in a rustic kitchen but not with the wood. I can understand how some people would think this kitchen is a little too stark, but for the purpose of video/photography it would be perfect. Hopefully the chef will put a few little signature touches in there to brighten it up? My kitchen is a very important place in my home and it NEEDS to be personalized. Otherwise I just don't like cooking as much.

There is one across the street from me in Milwaukee and it gets lots of traffic. So far the books have come and gone and have had a good mix of quality and, uh, 'guilty pleasures'. And it's not full of Chick Tracts either!

Mangoes. Absolutely. I've MASTERED avocados though. The trick is getting them ripe enough so after you cut it in half, the skin just peels away, nice as you'd like.

I agree with some other posters, the blue cabinets were kind of fun. But overall it looks like hat old kitchen just had to go. Yes, maybe the new one is a little blah, but it's a blank canvas for the new buyer - they can add some different lighting and accessories and they'll have a pretty kickass kitchen. AWESOME job on the cabinets, if I do say so.

Metal pegboard - genius! I'd be worried about the board getting nasty, but you could just take it outside and spray it down. I'm definitely doing this in my new place. There's an ugly watermark on one of the kitchen cabinets and I think I know how I'd like to cover it up now...

Do you own or rent? I've never heard of an apartment in a single family home. If there are two living units, it's not a single family home. If you're renting, i doubt your landlord would let you do anything drastic. If it were mine though, I'd probably tear it out. If you have to live with it, then paint and add doors. Maybe you could even turn it into a secret entertainment center.
