Meh. Chickens are easier to care for than our cat or my tow beehives. We feed and water in the morning, grab eggs in the afternoon and move water into their house at night. Easy. Peasy. We buried chicken wire under lava rocks to protect the run and haven't had a problem with predators- except for alley cats who sit watching the chickens. Bonus, the girls are cuddly with us since we're raised them from one week old chicks. All of their poop goes into our yard and all of the weeds I pull go into their bellies. I think it's a terrific relationship! Don't be afraid. You can do it! Pros & Cons of Raising Backyard Chickens |

This neighborhood is full of gems that at one time had roofs popped, houses scraped and replaced with McMansions and otherwise ruined the beauty of this mid-century area. I am SO HAPPY to see a house retain many of it's original features yet get updated. And love the craft room. Wish I still lived by Ideal Market, Liz. I'd meet you for a stitch and bitch. At our housewarming party I told everyone to feel free to open doors, not drawers. That gave me some privacy (and less cleaning) before the BIG party. The Stress Free Plan: How To Clean House for a Party |

I don't see the wonderful peacock color named. Is that in the music room? The study? Jeez.. so many rooms, how can I identify it? The Roeder's Modern Life is Beautiful House Tour |

My partner and I bought a house a month ago. We'd lived together for the last year and a half in an 800 sq ft one-bedroom, one bath. We bought a much larger house (3BR, 1BA) on a double lot with a basement and a greenhouse. It's wonderful. When we had our housewarming party everyone asked where the furniture came from our old place. We'd tucked furniture into the garage and lived in our small space with our curated items; the art I inherited, a 50s table we'd found, the credenza I searched forever for on CL . Moreover, my own art has a place throughout the house. Now, the two of us feel like our home is the size we need for guests and family, we have the furniture and artwork to make it feel cozy and we're so damn happy. So, yes, we live in a grown up house. Shoes come off when you enter, there's food and snacks whenever anyone visits and since we live 'downtown' in our small town, we often have visitors. Again, I am so happy to have created a home for us to share with friends and family. Do You Live In A Grownup House? |

Gah! And here I thought I was unique a few years ago putting a mannequin in my house. Two tours in a row with em. Rats. I might as well have a 'keep calm' poster. :) Krystal's San Francisco Studio House Tour |

How funny! I made sweet potato hash for Sunday breakfast served on a bed of sauteed kale with two poached eggs and some slivers of avocado. I wish it were Sunday morning again! Yumm!! 15 Suppers with Sweet PotatoesRecipe Roundup |

I love all the love for D-Troit! Both of my parents are from Detroit and we spent every summer visiting extended family around the downriver area and then headed to the family cabin off Lake Huron. I've always had an unusual fondness for Detroit and now I know why: it rocks! Here's wishing a speedy recovery to Detroit and those residents beautifying and enriching a culturally and historically significant city. Go Motor City Go! I love in Bend, OR. My neighbor asked her landlord if she could use the neglected back area of the four-plex for a garden. I watched pink-mohawked dart-throwing Becky replace junk and garbage with 3 4 ft x 12 ft beds with irrigation, a large tractor tire for squash and a compost bin by bartering the eggs she had from her four chickens in her 8 x8 ft yard. It took her most of the season but she managed to hobble together all of this with egg-bartered goods, regularly visiting the local Habitat ReStore and another junk store in town. She spent maybe $150 on new things-everything else was built with her relationships. She made an ugly area gorgeous in our little corner. She probably increased the value of the rentals with her green thumb. Thumbs up to Becky! Best Cities for Urban Homesteaders on a Budget? Good Questions |

I have an orange pouf from World Market. It's changed the dynamic of our small living room without cluttering the house too much. Our friends have a giant 'potato' bean bag in their TV room. During OU games there's fierce competition for who gets the hot seat. At half time the kids practice flips onto it. High & Low: Floor Pillows, Poufs & Beanbags |

I truly, deeply, struggle with this problem. Not only with design but clothing, music, cooking, etc. I was putting eggs on pizza, sandwiches, etc. for a while then realized so was everyone else and I was caught in the trend spiral! How Do You Deal with Design Trends? |

This is a really lovely museum, er, home. At 2300 sq feet and remodeled with designers and architects I don't see this fitting with the many home tours I've seen on AT in the past. I'd much prefer to see what people do with 800 sq ft, ingenuity and some elbow grease. Where's the dish rack? Toby & Samy's Mid-Century Makeover House Tour |

Any idea where I can find those beautiful poofs? Also, does anyone know if those are a pain to keep clean/not snagged? I love so many things on AT but worry whether they have longevity. On Trend in Europe: The Handcrafted Hippie Home Look |
